id shows insane Rage shots at SIGGRAPH

Friday, 7th August 2009 07:17 GMT By Patrick Garratt

id’s released some phenomenal Rage shots/renders/concepts at SIGGRAPH in New Orleans. You can view them all in this PDF.

Seriously: bonkers. They’re purportedly screenshots, but our frail minds can’t cope with the leap. The images are from a lecture on “virtual texturing” which includes the term, “Full description beyond the scope of this talk.”

Wow those look great! I know that RAGE is a wasteland FPS game, but I could see bethesda using this for Fallout 4.
(though I doubt they do, as they really like the gamebryo engine, and have years of development knowledge with it)
Still, fallout 4 would look amazing with this technology.

    Blimey. That looks great, really.

@fearmonkey I am having wet dreams about Bethesda using this for both TESV and Fallout 4. They probably won’t, but still.

Now THAT is some truly next-generation shit right there. Hats off to id. Can’t WAIT for this game (and for other developers to get their hands on the engine)

Why wouldn’t they use it for Fallout 4?

Because they virtually built their entire studio on NetImmerse/GameBryo. It’s what they know, and it’s what they are good at.

That has to be the PC version right?

    Yes, given the resolution.
But as they create all versions at the same time, the console version will look like this too. Only (probably) the rendering and the resolution will be different.
