World War Z trailer shows off PvPvE modes

World War Z's main co-op, PvE campaign will be accompanied by an assortment of PvP modes at launch.

World War Z developer Saber Interactive has revealed the game's PvP component in a new trailer. The co-op zombie shooter features five multiplayer modes, with a twist.

Scavenge Raid, Vaccine Hunt, Swarm Deathmatch, Swarm Domination, and King of the Hill are their names. Saber is calling it PvPvZ, essentially a fancy term for PvPvE. In these modes, the zombie horde will be part of the traditional PvP fights.

Today's trailer is unfortunately very brief, so the specifics of how this is all going to work aren't yet clear.

The idea is interesting, however, and most games shy away from introducing AI into pure competitive fights for a lot of reasons. It'll be interesting to see if these matches will play differently from those in your typical multiplayer games.
