Assassin's Creed Origins definitively links the worlds of AC and Watch Dogs

Assassin's Creed Origins confirms what many suspected - that Watch Dogs is taking place in the same universe as this series is. Some minor spoilers for a little Easter egg in Origins follow.

As reported by Eurogamer, in the 'modern day' sections of Origins you can uncover a definitive link between the two series if you hunt around a bit (and remember some specific plot details from the first Watch Dogs).

As Eurogamer points out, it all revolves around Olivier Garneau, a character from Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag who also appeared in Watch Dogs, where series protagonist Aiden Pearce shoots him dead on a side-mission. At the time, Ubisoft narrative director Darby McDevitt wrote it off as a joke.

Now, in Origins, it seems like there's something a bit more definitive. The Eurogamer article shares a screenshot from an in-game laptop in Origins (in one of the modern day sections, of course - the ancient Egyptians did not have wi-fi), which features some news about Garneau.

There's a security camera photo too, which very clearly shows Aiden Pearce shooting Garneau, linking the two series pretty definitively. Aiden exists within this world.

What could this mean for the future of these series? Will it remain a cute nod, or will we see something more in a future Watch Dogs sequel? In the meantime, if you want to go and kill Garneau yourself, check out Watch Dogs when it goes free on UPlay.

Assassin's Creed Origins, meanwhile, is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
