Go on a journey with the Monkey King in Dota 2 this fall
The New Journey is an update for Dota 2 coming this fall. And as the headline implies, a new hero will join the roster.
In the cinematic video above shown during The International this weekend, you get a look at the Monkey King and his army of fellow primates which seem to spawn from locks of his hair.
As Rock Paper Shotgun notes, a hero based on Sun Wukong from the Chinese novel Journey To The West was first conceptualized for the Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos mod, Defense of the Ancients.
Various references over the years to the Sun Wukong have been made in Dota 2, such as an "item which grants True Strike" called the Monkey King Bar. Note the staff the Monkey King is carrying in the trailer.
Apparently, update 6.87 introduced an ARG of sorts where a banana item drops from trees destroyed in a private lobby using cheats. Many feel the bananas are a reference to Sun Wukong finally making his appearance.
