Super Mario Maker gets spike pillars, key doors and pink coins next week

Super Mario Maker has more toys for you.

A new Super Mario Maker update will release on March 9, Nintendo announced during today's Nintendo Direct Presentation.

Creators will be able to add deadly spike pillars to their levels, and make things tricky with locked doors. Keys can be hidden in blocks or held by enemies, but you can also secure them behind pink coins - players will need to collect every pink coin to receive the key.

The update also adds a Super Expert mode to the 100-Mario Challenge, along with 12 new Mystery Mushroom costumes.

Nintendo announced that over 6.2 million Super Mario Maker courses have been uploaded since the game's September 2015 launch.
