Persona 5 plot and character details help explain last week's trailer

So did you all see the new Persona 5 trailer released in Japan last week? That's gotta be the first time I've watched a video game promo and gone into raptures over a user interface, but everything about Atlus's latest is slick as heck.

Sega hasn't seen fit to kick western marketing up a notch yet (we don't even have a release window) but it's all going off in Persona's homeland ahead of September release. This week's Famitsu is full of new information, detailing new characters and more.

According to Gematsu's translation of multiple Famitsu leaks, the main character becomes a phantom thief after being put on probation by police for injuring a man who was "making advances on women".

Using a phone app called Iseki Navi, phantom thieves enter a world called Palace, which represents the minds of adults. They explore warped scenarios in order to steal hidden desires called Treasures. This criminal activity is being investigated by the authorities, and may be related to people suddenly freaking out in public.

The red-eyed, brown-haired character is Makoto Niijima. The student council president at the protagonist's school, she's a serious character with a motorcycle-shpaed starter persona called Joanna, named after Pope Joan.

The long-haired girl in glasses is Futaba Sakura. A shut-in who no longer attends school, she's a genius programmer and her UFO-shaped starter persona is called Necronomicon; it symbolises mysterious power. Thecharacter in mask and hat is Haru Okumura. As the daughter of a company president she's a bit posh. Her starter persona is called Milady, and is themed after the Three Musketeers.

We've barely scratched the surface of the information released this week, so hit the link above for all the details.
