Dawn Engine is the "cornerstone" to Deus Ex: Universe development

Eidos Montreal has announced its new Dawn Engine which it says will be the "cornerstone" to the development of its Deus Ex: Universe projects.

A screenshot accompanied the press release, and while it doesn't claim to be from the next Deus Ex game, it sure looks like it to us.

The new engine is a heavily modified version of IO Interactive’s Glacier 2 engine, and allows for "improved rendering capabilities, real-time physics, and advanced artificial intelligence programming."

“The technology behind any game is a key component in ensuring that gamers are able to develop both an emotional and visceral connection to what they are experiencing within the game world,” said studio head David Anfossi in a prepared statement.

“We’ve worked tirelessly over the last few years developing this engine, building upon and improving both the visual and immersive artistry in our games. We truly believe that our engine will help us to strengthen both the gameplay and storytelling experiences we strive to create.”

Last year, what appeared to be deatils regarding the Deus Ex: Universe storyline and setting were revealed through a casting agency.

While the listing for actors didn't mention Deus Ex by name, it made mention of the Illuminati and augmentation, a staple in the series.

Eidos Montreal has said its next Deus Ex title is part of the studio’s plan to expand the franchise on a regular basis and to “deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games.”

Games set in the Deus Ex: Universe will arrive on both PC and current-gen consoles while additional Deus Ex games and experiences will be made available on tablets and smartphones.
