Diablo 3's original 900p Xbox One resolution was deemed unacceptable by Microsoft

Diablo 3 on Xbox One had an initial resolution of 900p, but Blizzard was quickly told by Microsoft that this was unacceptable.

As a result Blizzard worked directly with Microsoft to make sure that the game hit 1080p resolution.

"We did find it challenging early on to get it to 1080p," Blizzard's John Hight said to Digital Foundary.

"That's why we made the decision to drop to 900. That's what we demoed and were showing around E3 time. And Microsoft was just like, 'This is unacceptable. You need to figure out a way to get a better resolution.' So we worked with them directly, they gave us a code update to let us get to full 1080p."

It shows that, despite saying that frame rate was more important than resolution, and previous statements that developers would not be forced to attain 1080p, Microsoft is keen to close the perceived performance gap between Xbox One and PS4 hardware.
