Destiny will run at 1080p on Xbox One – but not during beta

Thursday, 17th July 2014 01:05 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Calm down, Xbox One dudes – Destiny will run at 1080p on your shiny box, too. Although next week, not so much.

Destiny won’t run at 1080p on Xbox One during beta testing, according to The (unofficial) Destiny Blog‘s report on an IGN Live segment.

Don’t freak out though – Bungie community manager David Dague (DeeJ) apparently confirmed the Xbox One will, like PS4, run at 1080p at launch in September. If you’re wondering why it isn’t already happening, it’s worth remembering that Bungie only decided to aim for 1080p after Microsoft released a new Xbox One SDK freeing up some processing power previously reserved for the Kinect.

The PlayStation beta kicks in about 16 hours from time of writing, while Xbox users have to wait till next week. Stare at this countdown timer, if you like.

Destiny is coming to PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

If I recall correctly, there was another fps on the xbone, which had the same promise: beta will play on lower resolution but full game will have higher ones. And it never happened.

@Aullah You mean Titanfall right? I remember they said that they might upgrade the graphics, however Destiny is another case. The developer already confirmed the upgrade and it was possible because of the new sdk which titanfall didn’t have access to at that time.

They are lying. Trying to damage control so people who have an xbox one will buy it just that little bit more.

You do have to wonder as to why they say it will run in 1080p, but not right now, only a couple months from release. I would guess they are still putting it through the paces, and where the fps drops maybe they are dumbing it down a bit in those areas, just to keep the 1080p promise.

The beta builds of games are usually months old, they got the June SDK in June.

Obviously they won’t bother using development time to boost the resolution of a beta.

@Hcw87 Fair enough. Probably just more about server capacity and such.

Yeah yeah yeah, how about just keep it at what it is now and not destroy another game with resolution…

This is the same shit that happened when Avatar came out and everyone ran out and bought 3DTVs because 3D was the next biggest thing but really it was turd and 2D was actually better, 3D was a fad which is now dieing out and 1080p will be the same, bye bye 1080p fanboys. Your fad is obviously over, no respectable developers want to use it.
