    Seems like this E3 will have a bunch of announcements that we have already seen.

    It doesn’t look like they are holding too much information this year to cause that “wooooow” factor on stage.

    Well, anyway. Let’s see. I’m personally considering this game to be the first real next gen game. Looking forward to it.

    I have a feeling it’s both vastly improved and delayed. That headline on the blog indicates the former and an insider thing on twitter indicates the former. If that’s the case, I wonder what they’ll have left for this year (apart from DriveClub).

    hmm…so far the game looked too much like a moviegame to me. sony pushed these kind of games a lot recently and i am not a fan of this direction at all but will actually watch this tonight. maybe it´ll surprise me.

    Generic TPS.

    ^^ Said the same about TLOU. Months before the game was released. When he wasn’t criticising the quality of trees, that is. From screenshots. Months before the game was released.

    i want a focus on gameplay. i want a naughty dog – going back to the roots again, creating a game in the spirit of jak and dax. i want a sony that pushes another medievil, cares more about their great franchises in general. i want innovation in gameplay, not orientation on the mainstream cinema. i do not want more movie games. i am a gameplay enthusiast through and through. i want that: games that are games. this industry is in danger to loose it´s identity.

    @polygem

    Also you must think Gears of War and Uncharted are pretty generic as well, if you believe the Last of Us is generic….

    But in any case, going back to my original question what game do you want? Because I believe if Sony and MS take the risk to try something new you will find something wrong with that concept too…..

    So please enlighten us what type of game is not a “generic TPS”?

    He has just as much a right to make a judgement and call the game generic as all the other people hyping it up to be the best game ever.

    Both are judgement calls.

    #23 9 months ago
  24. polygem

    @Mike W:

    first of all: i give a lot of games a lot of praise – all the time.

    well gears has some decent gameplay elements imo. these games are actually kind of deep gameplaywise. have you played the mp? it takes some time to really learn this game and to become good at it – in some ways the same can be said about uncharted online though, i must admit but while i enjoyed the first two uncharted games, they definitely aren´t among my favourite games.

    i grew tired of gears too though.

    i just prefer games that focus on gameplay, i love dark souls, castlevania, metroid, dayZ etc.
    i for one believe that these cinematic games are not taking any risk at all. they actually play it damn save and the ones that i have played have bored the shit out of me.

    i think the wonderful 101 was a great new concept, i liked vanquish a lot too, i think something in the spirit of the jak or ratchet games could be great. something that is new but does give credit to the heritage. i believe that war of the vikings is an insanely good game and a great concept. i would love to see more of this stuff.

    i have played far cry 3 recently and bioshock infinite and assassins creed IV and i really didn´t enjoy these games at all.

    this industry could cure itself if it would focus on it´s roots. that´s why i like and enjoy nintendo so much i guess.

    i am open for new stuff – but if it doesn´t excite me…what can i do?

    #24 9 months ago
  25. Panthro

    @Mike W

    My recent experiences with big budget AAA cinematic games tells me that this game is likely to be more movie than game from what I have seen, and I don’t like those (As I gather neither does Polygem), and am beginning to consider them as generic as the next Sylvester Stallone film.

    Well the fact remains those games have never made as much money as TPS especially with Uncharted and Last of US. 3D Platformers are niche now.

    Was that it?

    From what I saw its just another Gears of War. It sure is pretty though but that is all. If its Uncharted vs The Order will still get Uncharted as they can push gameplay, eyecandy and story.

    THis game I will just rent though or wait for a sale.

    Felt like a steam-punk GOW Uncharted Hybrid. Not too bad of an idea not many shooters go with a steam-punk style so it gets good artistic direction and regenerating health looks to be a natural so it at least tries makes the idea of auto healing magically happens to the player while everyone else can’t do it like in COD. Looks good on a tiny computer screen but they will probably have more at E3. It was a good impression but they could have just released that online or twitch for another 10 minutes

    So many people are amazed by the visuals, but let down by the gameplay. So far, this must be PS4′s Ryse (pretty graphics, sub-par gameplay according to some).

    I liked Ryse though, and i’m sure i’ll like this aswell. PS4 sorely needs games for 2014 though, besides this.

    Two minutes of gameplay is kinda hard to a game. The first Assassins Creed looked awesome in small bits but when you got it is was disappointing. It got better with the Ezio Trilogy and 3 wasn’t that great. I am hoping they show more at E3

    Everyone’s a critic I suppose. I for one think this looks pretty good. I’m reserving major opinions for when we get to see a lot more. It’s all speculation at this point. Pointless to argue over. Beautiful particle effects though (which I think most of the point of showing us this stream was).

  42. The_Red

    Goddamit it looks beautiful. Sadly the gameplay is still struggling and while I liked the archlight / blue energy type gun, the main action was same as shooting in Uncharted / Gears (2 Games that I lost my interest in their gameplay ages ago).

    Hopefully they have some destructable and monster related stuff to show at E3 because these visuals deserve a crazier sort of gameplay. Seriously, this looks like CG and beyond any console game I’ve ever seen (No matter how some PC elitist may want to berate textures or models).

    #42 9 months ago
  43. polygem

    it definitely looks great yeah!

    but then, i am playing through some of the old castlevanias and metroids again atm, thinking to myself how unimportant graphics really are.

    i hope that this game wont feel like a beautiful on rail shooter, graphics showcase ps4 game but what they have shown and said this far makes me sceptical about it.

    i hope that this game will offer a decent challenge in the gameplay department, that it´s gameplay first and looks and story second /and that they indeed blow me away with the enmey design :D

    i am so sick of the latest AAA games that just play by themselves. so sick actually that atm i don´t even bother thinking about picking up the new wolfenstein, watchdogs etc. i am interested in the evil within but i sense some disappointment there as well.
    it´s just becuase in the last few years, so many games have been such a let down.

    i still enjoy gaming though, a lot, it´s not all bad at all but with these triple a mainstream releases, i just became supercarefull, trying not to buy into the hype.
    the best selling games have become the ones to avoid for me most of the time these days. not always but often.

    i enjoyed the souls games so much because they gave me the feeling of an achievement. a feeling that you also had after finishing many old games. i miss that feeling and it got kind of lost in gaming lately and imo this slowly kills the spirit of this beautiful hobby.

    i sense that this one will play like on rails. believe it or not. i hope that i am wrong. i really really do.

    Jak and by extension, Naughty Dog, was never about the gameplay.
    The first one was a by-the-book short and easy but very pretty (for its time) 3D platformer with some clever humor.
    The second one was a subpar GTA clone with less than stellar gunplay, uneven difficulty, poor checkpoint placement and questionable mission design with again, some good writing and a darker tone.
    The 3rd one is simply a bigger, more varied version of Jak 2 with most of the major problems ironed out.

    To put it simply, Jak and Daxter was in quite a number of ways similar to Uncharted. A rather pretty game with amazing character interaction and performances that runs silky smooth.

    Anyway, I hope that there’d be some clever weapon designs (ala Resistance) in there.
    There’d be no point in using an alternate history setting if they don’t go crazy with the guns.

    people seem to forget that epic didn’t invent tps and the cover system with GoW,they just pushed it a little bit further from ps2 Killswitch and got a lot of hype and praise.There’s no wrong in that.
    The also applies here.Same genre,maybe a little bit more story focused,different setting and who knows maybe enchanced gameplay elements

    In this thread that comment was actually based on you & Panthro, Site-wide it was referring to a wide range of individuals. But since you didn’t take to my vagueness, I agree with Lex’s last sentence “different strokes, for different folks”, which makes your opinion of this industry losing its identity and in danger largely globalised.

    #51 9 months ago
  52. polygem

    @lexph3re

    sure lex, but different people have different opinions too not only different tastes. those opinions can be posted and then discussed.

    that´s what i do. mike asked me to clarify my opinion a bit more. i did that.

    i basically said that graphics aren´t that important. they do not make or break a game, that i personally don´t want a focus on looks but on gameplay – and that´s true, 100% true. i just feel like that.

    castlevania or metroid might have been graphical benchmarks of their time but at the same time they clearly, undeniably focussed on the gameplay elements as well.

    i said that i see a shift in that regard, a trend in recent games to nail looks first, gameplay second. i don´t like that trend – that´s all.

    this game, hey, if it will be good, i will play it. for sure…but for now. i remain sceptical.
