Don’t Starve PS4 has over 1 million players, PS Vita edition being investigated now

Don’t Starve developer Klei Entertainment has confirmed that its survival sandbox title – currently on offer for free on the PS4 edition of PlayStation Plus – is now enjoying over one million players. As such, a PS Vita edition is now on the cards.

It follows this new Don’t Starve: Reign of Giants DLC trailer.

Speaking with Edge, Klei’s Corey Rollins revealed, “Well before the end of 2013 we had over one million Don’t Starve players,” and added, “With PlayStation Plus, beyond promotion of being a featured game, a lot of people who maybe wouldn’t have tried our game did [try it] and really enjoyed it. Some of those people went on to check out the PC version as well, and would maybe be interested in the upcoming DLC.”

This success has spurred Klei on to look into a PS Vita edition, given the amount of people playing Don’t Starve using the PS4′s remote play feature.

Rollins continued, “We’re investigating a proper Vita version [of Don't Starve] at the moment, but we’re not quite sure yet. Currently, a lot of people play Don’t Starve: Console Edition using the PS4′s remote play, and really enjoy it. So we’re looking into a proper Vita release. As for iOS and mobile, that is something we’ve also been investigating and we think might work, but it’s not at the front of our development priorities right now. It’s still on our radar, though.”

The title seems misleading, makes it sound like theres a million players just on PS4 alone.

PS4′s remote play works pretty well except I had trouble figuring out how to get the map up. Would make an ace vita game if they added some touch support.

Looking forward to the DLC, then I will have an interesting choice, do I buy for PS4 or PC!

Cograts to Klei for the huge surge from PS+ members getting involved with there product.

I for one wouldn’t of bought this title without the PS+ scheme and glad I did get the chance to experience this little title as It’s all I’m playing now.

Never of thought a Rouge-Like game would get be excited for more indie titles in the future from Plus.

It works brilliantly on remote play. They mapped the buttons for the menu’s to work properly and it just seems perfect for that screen, and with the Vita’s existing library. Only issue is the text can be a little harder to make out, but its minor.

Free games for PS+ = A million people finding an indie gem like this. Hope this trend continues and expands with each new months. There are so many great indie titles that console gamers are missing.
