Tuesday, 24th September 2013 17:11 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Killzone Shadow Fall Season Pass details have been announced by Sony alongside the release of a new multiplayer trailer.

Along with the two competitive multiplayer maps which as previously announced will be released for free, six expansion packs are planned.

You can save money by purchasing the Killzone Shadow Fall Season Pass for £15.99/€19.99 providing access to the following packs as they become available:

  • Online co-op expansion pack: Focusing on team play and intense combat, the online co-op expansion pack adds a new co-operative game mode in which you and up to three online friends must survive against impossible odds. Fight waves upon waves of enemies in four new arena maps, featuring a unique leveling system and new unlocks.
  • Three online co-op map packs: Each map pack consists of two brand-new arena maps you can play in co-op mode with your friends. Please note that these arena maps will only work with the online co-op expansion pack.
  • Two additional multiplayer expansion packs: We’ll reveal more about these additional multiplayer expansion packs when Killzone Shadow Fall’s launch date nears. Suffice to say they’ll offer many hours of additional multiplayer thrills.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is a PlayStation 4 launch title.

    What a load of bullshit. Promise all multiplayer DLC for free and now a season pass? That’s quite funny.

    “To help increase longevity even further, Zuylen said the team plans to continue support for the title well after launch, which means all DLC multiplayer maps “will be released free of charge to ensure everyone can play.”
    It was never said that ALL multiplayer dlc will be free, only competitive maps.

    Quite funny how assumptions are made.

    Read it more carefully.

    Not sure if serious or stupid?

    Multiplayer (Competitive) and Co-Op are two seperate things.
    Unless they said all Online DLC maps, it ain’t false advertising.

    Come on dude, no reason to defend anything here.

    All DLC maps means ALL DLC MAPS. COOP or competitive. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to get that. COOP is multiplayer. You play COOP on multiplayer maps.

    @8
    Oh my bad, here i totally thought you HAD to play multiplayer for COOP. Since you know, it’s more than one person playing.

    @9
    Turn off the sarcasm, its two seperate things. You have to be online to play Co-Op.

    I can look it up, they are seperate things.

    @10
    You don’t have to be online to play coop, i can do that perfectly offline in plenty of games. Do we have separate meanings of ”multiplayer maps” across different games?

    Co-op is multiplayer, multiplayer is coop. They should have clarified this when they first started talking about it.

    Also:

    http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Effect_3_Multiplayer

    Back on the DVD case it says: ”Multiplayer 1-4 players”.

    Come on dude, no reason to make silly assumptions here.

    “The developer says it has chosen this unique approach “to prevent the player base from becoming fractured”.”

    So, how does co-op factor here? Nowhere. Its pretty clear what they meant.

  12. Hcw87

    @12
    Perfectly possible to fracture a playerbase in coop aswell.

    50% of players have DLC, 50% don’t. <— You'll only play with 50% of the playerbase, unless you buy DLC.

    If your saying its under the multiplayer banner, fine. But it is still two separate things.
    “Do we have separate meanings of ”multiplayer maps” across different games?” Never said that but they never said Co-Op maps would be free, they said multiplayer maps would be free. Unless they use a combination of both, it isn’t.

    “Co-op is distinct from other multiplayer modes, such as competitive multiplayer modes like player versus player or death-match.” (Wikipedia)

    “A multiplayer video game is a video game in which more than one person can play in the same game environment at the same time. Multiplayer components allow players to enjoy interaction with other individuals, be it in the form of partnership, competition or rivalry.” (Wikipedia)

  14. Dragon246

    @13,
    If you still don’t get the distinction, I don’t have time to spell it out any further. End of discussion.

    Have a nice day.

    @14
    So you’re basically confirming that coop is multiplayer? Thanks i guess.

    “Co-op is distinct from other multiplayer modes, such as competitive multiplayer modes like player versus player or death-match.” (Wikipedia)

    ^
    So it’s indeed a Multiplayer mode. Multiplayer. Maps.

    “A multiplayer video game is a video game in which more than one person can play in the same game environment at the same time. Multiplayer components allow players to enjoy interaction with other individuals, be it in the form of partnership, competition or rivalry.” (Wikipedia)

    ^
    So, exactly what i said above. More than one player in a game=multiplayer.

    Not trying to start an arguement here, but this is a (small) slap in the face after their initial announcement.

    “and yes, DLC multiplayer maps will be released free of charge”

    http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/08/23/killzone-shadow-fall-multiplayer-unveiled-at-gamescom-2013/

    “In addition to new competitive multiplayer maps – which, as we mentioned before, will be released for free – we’re also working on paid expansion packs”

    No it is Co-Op, Being under the multiplayer banner doesn’t mean it is Multiplayer.

    It isn’t multiplayer its Co-Op a different form of Multiplayer (Not automatically multiplayer it is its own thing).

    I am really not sure how much clearer i have to make this. Co-Op and Competitive Multiplayer (and other forms) are separate things.

    “In addition to new competitive multiplayer maps – which, as we mentioned before, will be released for free – we’re also working on paid expansion packs”
    It is separate.

    I’m not confirming anything, the facts have been put in front of you. Co-Op is not multiplayer.

    If you want to be really picky there is nothing here yet suggesting the coop maps are being specifically charged for. You need to pay for the coop functionality, what is the point in getting free coop maps for functionality you haven’t paid for?

    ”Being under the multiplayer banner doesn’t mean it is multiplayer”

    Ooook.

    @19
    Season pass includes 3 coop map packs. So you have to pay.

    @20
    I realise that, but if you buy the coop pack separately you may well get the coop map map too. Its separate because its released later. Regardless you appear to be making a mountain out of free stuff.

  23. Hcw87

    @23
    Well, the arguement at the moment is if co-op is multiplayer or not, which is quite funny in itself.

    Also, ”All multiplayer maps released post release will be free” kinda means all multiplayer maps. And considering co-op is in fact multiplayer it just doesn’t make much sense to me.

    Anyway, lets just bury this thread allready, we’re getting nowhere.

    @24
    I agree that coop is MP. However the context of MP maps will be free was important. Coop isn’t in the core game and when the statement was made the only MP which was know about was competitive, so realistically that’s all it could apply to.

    Unbelievable!
    You still can NOT change your Username!!

    ———————–
    PSN ID change on PS4 ‘very complex’, Sony not replacing PSN IDs

    September 22, 2013

    Those who have outgrown their current PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita username will be sad to learn that you may be stuck with it for another console generation – well, unless you create an entirely new account. On Sept. 20 during an interview with Game Informer, Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s worldwide studios, spoke on the topic of PS4 usernames and PSN IDs.

    As many are aware, the PlayStation 4 will allow you to have your real name attached to your profile and account – though one can adjust who can see their name and limit it to strictly friends. When it comes to changing your PSN ID, Shuhei Yoshida acknowledges that it is a common request and wishes it was something the company could say yes to. However, it seems that doing so is “very technically complex” and it may not be offered.

    While speaking with Game Informer, Yoshida was asked the following question:

    We heard Sony is giving users the option to use their real name in place of their PSN IDs. Does this require users to change their PSN ID?

    He replied, “We are not replacing [PSN IDs], but we are adding another option for people to input their own real name. They have some control of how their real name is exposed to everyone or friends. It’s actually a common question that I’ve been asked is ‘Can I change my PSN ID?’ That’s a very common request, and I wish we could say ‘Yes, you can”, but it’s very technically complex.”

    “all DLC multiplayer maps”

    Not sure why all the confusion but doesn’t multiplayer = more than one player, as in more than one human playing together?

    Aren’t coop and competitive just forms of multiplayer?

    Kudos to Sony for releasing some DLC free but that doesn’t change the fact the wording in their promise was poor.

    Can anyone not see this being a bashfest if it was Microsoft that did this? :P

    MP actually seems pretty fun, apart from the fact that it looks like the video is being played in slow motion.
