Destiny may release on PC, considering cross-platform saves

Friday, 24th May 2013 11:35 GMT By Dave Cook

Destiny developer Bungie has assured PC gamers that it is looking at the format and that it is also considering the possibility of cross-platform saves for its MMO shooter. Don’t get too excited, as nothing is concrete yet.

Speaking with IGN, Bungie senior writer and head of community Eric Osborne said of a potential PC release, “We haven’t said yes, and we haven’t said no.

“The more platforms we take on, the more work it ultimately becomes, and what we don’t want is to compromise the core experience on any platforms. We have a lot of people who play on PCs. We have a lot of appetite to build that experience. We haven’t announced it yet, but we’re looking forward to talking more about that kind of stuff in the future.”

On the issue of cross-platform saves, Osborne added, “For us, [platforms] are purely agnostic. Any data on our back-end servers and services, like Bungie.net, are ours. We control it, we can do a bunch of fun stuff on that side. So for us, we want to absolutely do the right things for players.

“But there are some complexities we have to solve that are outside our control. But we’re absolutely pushing to solve some of those things. We don’t have anything to announce, but hopefully in the future we will.”

Would you like to see Destiny hit PC? What about cross-platform saves? Let us know below.

Meanwhile, be sure to check out Bungie’s new CG trailer for Destiny, which shows plenty of action ahead of the game’s next big reveal at E3 2013 on June 10.

i will probably remind you guys about this once it has been released :)

i believe this game will be awesome.

one of my friends only plays on pc – this would be great.

i personally always prefer a good gamepad to play any game.

@6 Someone hasn’t been following retard statements made by Bungie. Bungie has announced that when they invented Halo and control scheme for it they made K&M obsolete for FPS gaming.

On news itself: Basically what they just said is that they aren’t ready to talk about possible PC version, while they are doing in-house prototype testing and developing for that version to see if it’s doable. Cross-platform saves are in cards, but they need to push Sony and MS on the issue to it can happen.

Wait… “saves?” Am I the only one who picked up on that? Is this going to be a co-op game like Guild Wars with online lobbies, with data saved on the client’s side? That’s hardly an MMO…

    @12

    Probably more like Borderlands series.

    @13

Yeah. Similar to that. I just find that it’s strange… Aren’t they doing themselves a disservice, here? Borderlands advertises itself as a single-/multi-player game. By advertising themselves as an MMO, they stand to alienate both parties.

    It’s just weird.

Our public opinions don`t count, they either check `professinal game reviews` and of course their own data, since only the biggest mouths cry in public.

Anyhow, good for PC gamers I guess, if they can make it.

@13 But have they ever actually referred to it as an MMO? That’s an assumption a lot of folks seem to be making, but from Bungie themselves, I’ve only ever seen it referred to as an action-rpg multiplayer fps. ie. exactly like Borderlands. The imagery they’ve released does suggest multiplayer on a larger scale than Borderlands, granted, but if they’ve actually referred to it specifically as an MMO, I’ve missed that. They’ve certainly said it will incorporate MMO elements, but what does that actually mean? Persistant world? Crafting? Cooperative combat against AI-controlled opponents? There are hundreds of things that could mean, but to me “incorporating MMO elements” implies “being a bit like an MMO without actually being an MMO”.

Angry insane PC fanboys who never owned an Xbox and couldn’t aim with a gamepad if their life depended on it versus another industry changing video game and a great MMOFPS.

I suppose it’s like football tournaments to people on the internet.

I’m not an angry PC fanboy, I do own an xbox and a ps3, and I can’t aim for shit with a game pad.. know why? Cos they ain’t designed for pinpoint twitch aiming.

One thing I don’t understand about “not” releasing for PC – isn’t the game basically developed on the PC so should in theory work on it natively (since that’s where it’ll be debugged etc)?

i started playing shooters on the pc and yeah it works great and all but these days i love playing them with a gamepad….so sick of the pc mouse keyboard only way to play real shooter stuff…loved bungies statement. they have a point. shooters can be so much more fun with a gamepad having triggers, rumble and all. elitists will now say rumble is for noobs because you wont be as precise….well…get. a. life. or game professional, then you might have a point.

@19, It’s developed on the console devkits. Not on the PC.

+ Bungie is bad when it comes to FPS. Early games had an option with one button to turn in 360 degrees not to mention about AUTO-AIM.

It’s really hillarious to play a Halo game with XIM3

Simple Unreal tournament 1 shooting mechanic with simple level design. LoL

“Angry insane PC fanboys who never owned an Xbox and couldn’t aim with a gamepad”

Why should any PC gamer own a box that can’t even do multitasking, slow with 720p gaming that can only offer a gamepad for FPS gamers aka disabled people. Well, anyway. It’s DaMan a Halo fanboy saying something about “great FPS” when gameplay was never seen. Ahh well, actually there was a gameplay of a simple mmofps that is below Planetside 1 standards. K

I don’t know how else to address a patient whose greatest fun is referencing Halo mechanics as those of Unreal when Unreal ripped off Marathon.

Unreal ripped off Marathon? That’s something new. What’s next? Show us the next level of your great knowledge of Bungie fanboyism.

your greatest fUn saying things like Xbox rules/patients/Halo fanboyism/windows sucks, Apple rules so I’m ok with this.

One of a myriad links you can find in search engines with in-depth analysis of Erthazus, Unreal, Marathon, Halo and the fact that Erthazus is being in denial for 5+ years regarding Ut ripping off Marathon (Halo’s direct predecessor).

@26, As always. Just words and 0 facts at all. You don’t know the history of UT. If UT was trying to rip off someone. That would be Quake III:Arena which was it’s main competitor. But you don’t know that. You never played it and you never played Unreal 1.

So good luck telling everyone about how “Halo did something” when in reality it did nothing and their next game will do nothing. Only console fanboys see that.

Again, I don’t know how else to address a patient who replies with the same wall of bullshit, misspelled dementia and paraphrased posts from the internet.

Fact: ripped off modes, none of which are presented in Quake Arena. You’re insane, Erthazus.
