Microsoft halts ‘Halo 3 on PC’ rumours after AMD discovery

Monday, 18th March 2013 15:19 GMT By Dave Cook

Microsoft has put to bed rumours that Halo 3 is coming to PC once and for all. Fresh speculation began after the latest batch of AMD drivers made mention to Bungie’s shooter, but the publisher want all rumours to cease.

Speaking with Eurogamer, a Microsoft rep simply said in a statement, “We currently do not have plans to release any Halo titles on Steam, nor do we currently have plans to release a PC version of Halo 3.”

It still begs the question as to why the drivers made mention of the game to begin with, but it may have just been wishful thinking on AMD’s part. The finding follows Halo 3′s appearance among Steam registry files, suggesting the game was going to appear on Valve’s store-front.

But we’ve heard nothing more since.

Still, what do you think?

My guess is they will announce something at the Xbox-Event in April or around that timeframe. Microsoft has to show some cohesive strategy for it’s Xbox and Windows brands. Maybe they will support PC/Windows 8-Gaming better in the future and bring some older Xbox-Games to the platform. A lot depends on what they really want to develop the Xbox into though. Time will tell.

As a PC gamer i couldn’t give a fuck about Halo. It’s one of the most over-rated IP’s in videogame history.

There are far superior shooters on the PC already i.e Tribes Ascend, Arma 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike, etc, etc.

The Halo franchise is shooters for pussies…Oh, and you can quote me on that!

“We currently do not have plans…” translates to: “We cannot announce anything before E3, please stop taking our momentum.”

Dave’s reading a whole lot into the Microsoft statement to reach all the way from “currently no plans”, to “quit asking/speculating about that CONSOLE shooter we make on other platforms”

“put to bed rumours”…They did nothing of the sort! Nothing was halted. D: Indeed, there’s still rampant speculation in the comments here. No. I’d really like to know how you supposed that Microsoft believed it would cause the rumours to cease, using such complete wishy-washy language?
Anybody could draw the same conclusion as #4, going by past form on these things…

Lol to the max, MS bowing down to Steam and finally accepting, actually games for windows blows and you’re right, Steam is a cool idea. Can you sell our games for us?!

Like we even want your shitty console game on PC anyways, you giant monopolistic sob’s.
