Sony revises its list of European PS4 developers from 53 to 30

PS4 was revealed last week along with a huge list of supporting developers and publishers already in the frame to push out games on Sony’s hardware. However, Sony has now revised down its list of European supporters from 52 to 30. Red faces all round.

Update: Sony has just sent us the official, revised list of third-party PS4 developers and publishers across Europe. Here they are:

Original Story:

Last week, Sony published a list of 149 worldwide PS4 partners – 53 of which were based in Europe. The list was whittled down to just 30 names in an odd turn of events.

Joystiq reports that big names like Mojang and Criterion Games are now absent from the list as a result, begging the question, ‘Just where the hell are they?’

Mojang’s Daniel Kaplanrtold the site that it hadn’t made a decision on PS4 yet and that their inclusion on the list was an error on “Sony’s side.” A few studios have said the same.

Sumo Digital has been added to the list however. VG247′s sources have told us that the team is working on LittleBigPlanet 3 as you read this.

What do you make of the culled list?

Several days ago, an article was published in which the reporter contacted the developers listed, especially the more eye-opening of them, and the responses varied greatly: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/187080/Which_indies_are_working_on_PS4_games_and_why.php#.USt7WGeuR8E

3 VERY interesting devs on the list Bohemia Interactive, Paradox Interactive and Creative Assembly all very PC focused with some very good games, could we see DayZ, a melee combat focused midevil game or even a Space Marine-esc Warhammer game on consoles?

Some of them might have folded under their respective publisher in the new list like Criterion which is owned by EA and Rockstar probably goes under Take Two Interactive.

@2 I read that too and they mostly seemed surprised by Sony to list them without consultig them … headscratching.

HaHaHa!
Looks like Sony just went to wikipedia, made a list of devs, and posted it.
Although Criterion would obviously make a ps4 games sometime soon, like a NFS.

I don’t believe they are lying outright while some number bumping is expected it could simply be the case that some of these developers expressed interest and Sony just threw them on the list fully expecting them to want to develop due to self publishing capabilities. Only time will tell but to be honest Sony through the gauntlet down and it could simply be those that choose not to come along get left behind.

@9 unless Microsoft massively increased the capabilities the dev kits show the PS4 being more powerful than the Durango or Xbox720.

@11 It should be noted that the PS4 has already been modified based on rumors and leaks. Initially the Orbis dev kit only sported 4GB of RAM, until the rumor of Durango having 8GB. Only about a month later the rumors updated saying that the “finalized” Orbis dev kits were delivered and had 8GB of RAM.

And also don’t forget that the entire GPU configuration of the PS3 changed even after it was initially announced. This is what led the PS3 to slip from its November 2005 release date and come out a year later than the 360. People often forget that the 360 having a headstart wasn’t MS being tactical but Sony more than dropped the ball. They kicked it in their own goal. Point is, we still have some waiting to do before we have enough data to make our fanboy arguments.

The specs that were leaked on the Xbox720 is almost a year old. Sony messed up. Just like how Sony upped the ram Microsoft will put out a system that tops the specs of the Ps4. Being 1st isn’t always smart ask the Wiiu lol

Creative Assemblys last console title was Stormrise, so you pretty much have everything to fear.
