Dark Souls fan offers unofficial resolution mod

Friday, 24th August 2012 03:29 GMT By Brenna Hillier

NeoGAF member Durante has been toiling away since Dark Souls’ overnight release on PC and has released a mod unlocking the action RPG’s fixed 720p resolution. The completely unofficial fix is not guaranteed in any way, so you should probably only grab it if you know what you’re doing. The mod hasn’t been tested over the course of the whole game, and it seems that work is ongoing – it’s already been updated since its release a few hours ago, to remove a blur effect.

    So he did that in 23 minutes but whole team with their engine and all couldn’t do it ?

    From Software did it for a reason. Some scenes, like Sif fight with his multilayer fur all over the screen will make even high-end videocards drop to low FPS with higher resolutions.

    @2 Lame excuse is lame and kudos to Durante.

    @1 Console teams do that all the time. Because they are lazy, because they don’t give a s**t about their customers and because they suck at programming. But it’s OK because console gamers are so dumb that they never realize how bad the games (that they play) really are.

    Wow, locked at 720p? They weren’t joking when they said it’s be a shitty port.

    They said they weren’t experienced in pc programming, so its not a fault on their part per se.

    In that case, the publisher should probably have had it done by a studio that has PC programming experience.
    Other than that, From Software should have at least tried to make the resolution work.

    So so tempted to pick this up for pc after putting far too many hour sin to the ps3 version. The diff between 720 and higher resolutions is amazing.

    At least the crack by FLT gets rid of GFWL. That’s something.

    btw. the controls are horrendous. I hope the community fixes this game as soon as possible.

    @11: Even for a controller?

    Gotta say, I’m also a bit tempted seeing the screenshot posted by KrazyKraut. That’s not just the resolution that has been imrpoved. Somehow it looks a lot nicer even though From said they didn’t make any graphical enhancements for the PC version.
