Trademark for Dragonborn filed by ZeniMax
ZeniMax has filed another trademark pertaining to Skyrim, and where as last month it was the shout Fus Ro Dah, this time it’s the term Dragonborn. It was filed on May 15 under goods and services, meaning it could pertain to anything gaming related or it was filed to stop people cashing in on unsanctioned t-shirts, bumper stickers or other consumer goods. Earlier this week, the firm sent a copyright infringement notice to the Dragon Shout app maker, and it’s worth noting that Dragonborn is also a race in Dungeons & Dragons, but we’re unsure at press time whether Wizards of the Coast have rights to the term or not. Thanks, Fusible.

I doubt the application will succeed.

Prior art trumps copyright, meaning that if “dragonborn” was a race in D&D before Skyrim came about, it cannot be restrained by Bethesda or Zenimax in any way.
