Drake strikes gold: Uncharted 3 reviews go live

With the reviews embargo now lifted, scores have started to drop in for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception before next week’s release. Are the ratings as high as Uncharted 2? Signs point to yes.

It’s all looking candy so far, having already hit 93 on MetaCritic, two points behind UC2. Get the full lot so far below.

If you have a link you want us to add, chuck it in the comments.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception launches in the US next Tuesday, and in the UK and Europe next Wednesday for PlayStation 3.

8/10 for MGS4 seems fair to me, people make out 8/10 is a terrible score (like the gears 3 farce with eg giving a 8).

it is a good score for any game.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Uncharted 3 was “flawless” tbh. The only complaint I had about Uncharted 2 was its linearity and scripting, but those are perfectly valid design choices and any complaint I had would be purely subjective in my preference for a bit more in the way of freedom and exploration.

I suppose if you took a purely objective look at the game in terms of the goals Naughty Dog set for the game and their success in realising those goals, then the game may be deemed “flawless”.

Glad to see the good scores all around, although i understand why Eurogamer give it an 8/10, i have the same complaints for its linearity and scripting, dont get me wrong i love this game like a great summer movie like pirates of the caribean and/or indiana jones, but i known they are not masterpieces in the genre, and i neither i dont care, great series by a great developer.

Know iam only waiting for zelda and skyrim for my november pics, jesus i will be broke by the end of this year.

@59, LOL. Really?

:D Ahaha.

I think it is more down to artistic stuff, but you obviously can’t deny that Battlefield 3 is a technical achievement and masterpiece.

Yes, Uncharted 3 is good looking. but no fucking way there is achievement in that area.

Another shitty review from Eurogamer I see. Such a shame that my once goto site for reviews has now become a farce.

Every time they review a blockbuster lately, they take the core features and gameplay/style & elements that everyone has come to understand and love about said game and turn them into negatives just to be controversial.

Wannabe critics that don’t have the writing abilities to back up their claims.

We all knew this would be more of the same but when the game is of a certain quality that no longer matters. Again and again the review missed mentioning new features in a bid to bitch about features everyone knew would remain the same.

They seem to be hankering for more freedom, we all know that will not be possible until at least the next gen of consoles. Keeping that kind of graphical fidelity on a 4 year old console is only possible if your game is more scripted, it’s a fact.

It’s like me spending 90% of a review of skyward sword talking about how the game still follows the same formulae of dungeons and treasure and complaining about it!

Really grinds my gears, and def going to give Eurogamer a wide berth now…

Yeah I hate it when people disagree with my opinion. I just avoid anything I disagree with, else I get all worked up.

I mean an 8? They might aswell have give it a 0. EG are such bastards.

No, they don’t really back up their criticism with any substance. It’s not even about the final score in games like gears or uncharted either as they will sell regardless.

A bad review is a bad review.

It’s like they have forgotten the point and style of a game then decided to pick up on irrelevant points. After playing and finishing uncharted 2 multiple times, I understand how heavily scripted the game is, but because it’s trying to re-create a Indiana jones style blockbuster, this is the only option naughty dog has with current hardware.

To spend the majority of the review complaining about linearity in this game is missing the point.

If Parkin is apparently so down on set-piece scripting, they better not give him the MW3 review. :)

Yeah, like I said, I hate people having different opinions to me.
And when journalists miss the point of a game. That just drives me mad.

@67

Weak, why did you think that was a well written review? Or do you just automatically like everything you see written down?

@68

Yeah I didn’t have an problem with it. Main criticisms seemed to be that the player had little control as they were funnelled along the game. Seemed a fair complaint to me.

I personally enjoy linear games, but am I going to complain that a reviewer doesn’t? Nope.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t 8 a pretty good score?

So far it’s 94 on metacritic.

If it’s not as close as Batman or Portal 2 (95%), it’s not going to be this year GOTY.

They didn’t devote a huge amount of space for the review in the first place. This is not necessarily a problem, however, if your going to home in on one particular area and focus on it for 80-90% of the review it had better be relevant.

I’m not saying you can’t have differing opinions but when you become a critic or are involved in reviews you put yourself in a public forum where people can discuss your work.

Personally Eurogamer reviews seem to have got lazy and too drunk on their own farts recently. They send out very mixed messages and nit picking focus on game elements that they must know full well are unimportant to the majority of readers.

All in all, the are getting less helpful to potential buyers, which is the whole point of a review after all…

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is one of the best PS3 games around, no action-adventure could stand up to it in comparison – until now! Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception combines the good elements of its predecessor with some new, fresh features like the enhanced multiplayer in a stunning setting. The atmosphere and the story really capture the player’s interest and will have them forget time. A great game – thanks, Naughty Dog.

The point of having so many sources to publish a review of a game is to bring up points that a critic thinks it would help or worth mentioning. So, if EG gave it 8 out of 10 and says that the point A is the issue here, it’s that critic’s opinion and how he feels about the point A. Someone else might point out many other things as issue and have no problems whatsoever with the things EG reviewer points as an issue. So, quit whining cause no matter what you think or believe a game critic should be, they’re human beings and they’re entitled to their opinions.

You have brain, better start using it to process through different reviews and summarize the things you like or dislike about a game. There are things that you might absolutely like while others might absolutely hate, or in between, there things that many might not like and you consider a great feat. It is called the difference of opinions, try to accept that everyone have opinions of their own and they’re entitled to expressing themselves. It doesn’t necessary means they’re right or wrong, but it’s their opinion and that might actually align with some other people’s opinion.
