DICE: No home servers for Battlefield 3 on PC
DICE’s Mikael Kalms has explained over on the EA forums why the company will not allow for the use of home servers with Battlefield 3.

According to Kalms’ post on the game servers, the decision to only allow Ranked Server Provider companies to run a server, is due to the ease of providing support.
“The game server machines themselves will be run by a number of Ranked Server Provider (RSP) companies,” he said. “We do not allow other companies to run game servers, or for other people to run game servers from home.
“We try to strike a balance where there are game servers available across the globe, while still keeping the number of RSPs at a level where we can offer reasonable support to each individual company. Since we prefer to work with larger hosting companies, and we focus on countries where we have a larger player base, there will not be game servers available in every country on the planet.”
The list of RSPs which will run BF3 game servers at launch is not ready yet. Once all is in place, and announcement will be made.

Battlefield 3 is out in October for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

That’s kind of bullshit, yes support can be much easy when you have let say 10 providers, but the real thing is piracy. When you release the protocols for the servers, they can be easily cracked in order to play with your pirated game. The only drawback clan battles are kind of screwed, because you must go unranked, with the server for whci you pay money and can loose players this way.

Works alright with BC2, except some of the halfway decent servers are crazy expensive to rent

@7, Steam asks you if you want to participate every time they want to scan your computer.

Its idiotic, but at least not so idiotic like its with CoD.
Dice is ignoring some nations anyway, in Poland we dont have server provider with DICE licence who can host BC2/MoH servers.. I’m wondering if it will change after BF3 will come out.
Poland is one of the biggest FPS nations in EU and west always saying to us “go fu&** yourself”

Huh… I figured since Modern Warfare 3 was going to have open dedicated servers that BF3 would HAVE TO follow suit. This is disappointing.
