MW3 teasers take you to New York, London, Berlin, Paris

Saturday, 14 May 2011 07:00 GMT By Debabrata Nath

Following Kotaku’s story reveal on Modern Warfare 3 last night, Infinity Ward’s released three teaser trailers confirming the game’s existence.

The brief movies introduce you to four major cities, all of which will be featured in-game – New York, London, Berlin and Paris.

All of them are shown as being attacked by enemy forces, supporting the “World War III” scenarios rumours.

All the teasers feature Vladmir Makarov’s voice. From what I can make out, his words at the end can be roughly translated as, “One… will destroy the enemy’s hope for victory.”

Expect more details to drop later today as Bowling’s promised there’s more to follow.

For now, here’s your first look at Activision’s next Call of Duty title. You can also check out the game’s new Facebook page here.

My Russian’s terrible, but I think they’re in order. As in:

America: “One…will destroy the enemy’s hope for victory”

    England: “Two…?”

    France: “Three…?”

Germany: “Four…will attack from all sides/directions”

Any Russians out there who can translate the rest?

Including foreign soldiers is a smart move imo. People were getting tired of the America vs evil formula. Especially german kids will enjoy playing a countrymen that’s on the good side for once and not wearing a monocle and a Wehrmacht uniform.

That’s not Russian at all. Sounds more like Serbian or Ukrainian.
    As for what it’s saying:
“One. Destroy enemy’s hope for victory”
“Two. Use everything to your advantage”
    “Three. Use your enemy’s weakness”
“Four. Attack from the unexpected point”

    #18 4 years ago
  19. Erthazus

@15, It’s not Ukrainian and Serbian. It’s FAKE RUSSIAN. Or more… Russian Gibberish.

First sentence is: Один – Уничтожить вражную надежду на побеждение
Odin – Unichtozith Vraznuju pobedu na pobezdenije

You can’t even TRANSLATE this shit. Because it’s not correct at all.
Basically it should be: Уничтожь вражескую надежду для победы
    Unichtoz vrazeskuju nadezdu dlja pobedi

In english: Destroy enemy’s hope for victory

I know russian. It’s not my main language, but i’m from Eastern Europe. I know it. Of course not perfectly, but much better then THESE idiots from Activision that can’t hire guy that can speak Russian.

Of course they can’t. Because they can’t even hire normal designers, engineers and writers.

    #19 4 years ago
  20. Suomik

Mkay, I’m from Ukraine which means I speak Ukarainian and Russian. Erthazus is right, this is pure gibberish and I’m really interested in why can’t anyone hire a professional Russian actor. All of the games I’ve played have this I’m-really-trying-to-speak-Russian-but-I-fail-miserably guy instead of just taking a normal person. Why does this happen?

    #20 4 years ago
  21. Patrick Garratt

I can’t believe they didn’t actually use Russian.

    #21 4 years ago
  22. Christopher Jack

Maybe they don’t want to get too real. It’s not a simulator after all. But faking the Russian language doesn’t make any real sense.

    #22 4 years ago
  23. Erthazus

Second teaser: Два – Используй всё, к своему преимуществу.
DVA – Ispoljzuj Vsjo k svojemu preimushestvu

You can say that in Russian, but it’s the same thing like saying: Hey, suck my balls!

Translation in english: Use everything to your advantage

In english it’s absolutely correct, but in Russian it’s Gibberish.

I know who was the voice actor. It was BOBBY KOTICK reading google translator.
    Jesus Christ. such a hipocricy.

    #23 4 years ago
  24. M. K.

Haha, just some bad russian in a teaser and the whole world is watching. Activision is the master of publicity. I guess the MW3 teaser got already more clicks than any BF3 trailer, just because of fanboism and hatred :D

    #24 4 years ago
  25. Erthazus

@20, they didn’t used Russian since Modern Warfare 4. It was all gibberish from the beggining. In MW2, Russian airport is not the same airport that is in Sheremetyevo and etc.

Even Russian guns are not guns at all. Plastic garbage that does exist in prototype stuff.

How can you make a game about military and don’t know about military absolutely nothing? I don’t know.

How can you make a game about Russian culture and know about it absolutely nothing?

I dunno. Activision are masters of bad publicity and hype. Thats what it is.

    #25 4 years ago
  26. Badger

Maybe they hired a Russian guy who was secretly pissed off they consistently make Russians the bad guys, and no one at Activision actually checked the translations. Dey bin trolld.

    #26 4 years ago
  27. Christopher Jack

@Erth, like I said, they’re probably trying to keep it fake on purpose to keep tossers like Fox ‘news’ quite.
@25, They were good in W@W.

    #27 4 years ago
  28. Badger

@26 True, they were good in the first three as well. Well maybe the Russia hate is only a recent thing then.

    #28 4 years ago
  29. Schindet Nemo

@25 They do that on purpose. These teasers are made for the english speaking market and english speakers tend to be monolingual. Why bother hiring an expensive native speaker if some random Programmer can just record some random lines and most people can’t tell the difference anyway.
Everytime you hear a foreigner in a film or a game in the enlgish version it’s 80% gibberish. Just take the latest South Park episode or the Wolfenstein games.

    #29 4 years ago
  30. Badger

I can understand it more for films and actual games, but for a debut teaser that’s undoubtedly going to get picked apart it seems like a pretty silly oversight. Coming from the recent Portal 2 ARG where everything was a coded message, this just seems lazy.

    #30 4 years ago
  31. Erthazus

    @Schindet Nemo, bullshit.

Battlefield: Bad Commpany 2 for example had fantastic Russian voice actors.

In my opinion, i never heard something better then in that game. Even STALKER pales in comparison.

@Jack, Maybe,… But these idiots (Fox) don’t know Russian too so…

    #31 4 years ago
  32. Schindet Nemo

They don’t have to put effort in it. COD will be the best selling game 2011 no matter what.

  38. Timurse

I am native russian speaker from Moscow so I can tell you what exactly happened with actor situation here :) If you are russian or know some russian speakers then you would easily recognize native accent. The main thing in Makarov voice which sounds so disturbing is that he can’t do soft transitions. Like in first teaser here he says word hope (надежда – nadezhda with stress on “de”) like nadyezhdu but should say nadezhdu with straight soft transition NA-DE-ZH-DU.
Also he says sentences with wrong word connections and totally confuses prepositions. In second trailer: Используй все к своему преимуществу. No one will ever say this in such way. Because it should be somehow like Используй все свои преимущества (Use all your advantages – Ispolzuy (stress on O) vse svoi (stress on ii) pre-i-mu-she-stva (stress on MU)).
Many foreigners do such mistakes and they are being forgiven in Russia because of high variation ability of russian language. You can totally mess up words in non complex sentence and in 90% of situations native russians will understand what you are talking about.

    #38 4 years ago
  39. Timurse

@30 Also Russian voice over in BFBC2 was quite awful :( It was kind of the same in The Way Back movie where all the russians in russia were barely russian :-/

    #39 4 years ago
  40. Erthazus

@Timurse, Привет своим! :D Небось у вас сча Москва трещит после победы над Канадой в Хоккее да? (Это оффтоп, чисто дружеский =)) )

    “Many foreigners do such mistakes”

Проблема в том, что эта игра про “Войну”. Это не симулятор конечно, но нужно соблюдать контекст. Это же не просто блокбастер класса “B”. Это “ААА” тайтл, а для таких игр такой брешь просто не простительный.

Я уверен, вы играли в МВ2. Там даже аэропорт из Шереметьево была смех картина. Сплошь клюква.

@38, completely disagree. It was a crystal clear Russian. You can even see the voice actor names.

    #40 4 years ago
  41. Timurse

На ней, как Вы понимаете, написано “Steal, kill, fuck geese, wait for a connection beep”. Но разработчикам – как всегда – настолько на все насрать, что они спокойно скопировали надпись на текстуру в трейлере :)

you’re whining about fake russian like russia is the main market for activision. it happens all the time in most of the movies and games, i am an arab when someone speaks arabic in a movie or a game 90% he speaks gibberish or he speaks a bad arabic with egyptian accent while he is suppose to be an Iraqi !!

    #45 4 years ago
  46. Erthazus

“now go back to normal please…”

so Russian or other language is not normal for you?
