Saturday Shorts: Nokia loves Microsoft, Lieberman and Slash speak, SWTOR, Duke, She-Hulk
It’s Saturday. Likely, you are enjoying eggs at the kitchen table while still in your undercrackers. As the wife yells at you for the fifth time to get dressed, continue to ignore her, and read up on smaller news stuff instead. We’ll be your character witness when you land in divorce court.

- At the DICE summit, NPD’s Anita Frazier said new technology is driving growth in the game market, but it’s not enough to excite customers.
- Episode 3 for The Silver Lining has been delayed to February 17.
- Nokia and Microsoft have entered into a strategic alliance on Windows Phone, Bing, Xbox Live and Office.
- A World of Tanks tutorial video has been released. Watch it here.
- Dungeon and Dragons Online turns five at the end of the month. Expect some celebrations.
- There’s a new book out which is a guide to helping developers get into the game industry.
- A CG trailer for Shogun: Total War has been released. Have a watch.
- Croteam announced that Serious Sam 3: BFE will be coming this summer.
- New shots of Double Bear’s zombie survival RPG Dead State are over on Gamespot.
- There’s a Star Trek Online Cloaked Intentions video you can watch here.
- Slash has voiced his opinion on the death of Guitar Hero: “It was inevitable. Sales declined after the success of GH3. It was too costly to produce the game as a result.” He should get a job as an analyst.
- You may have seen these shot of NGP games before but take a look again: Little Deviants, Resistance, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet.
- A couple of the Capcom Unity folks have posted a video of them playing MvC3 with a Guitar Hero controller.
- Gearbox has said Duke Nukem Forever will contain about 16-17 hours worth of gameplay.
- The SWTOR website has been updated with a timeline video which hints around at the Sith Emperor’s identity.
- DC Comics has released the first issue of the comic book series based on the DC Universe Online MMO.

Oh you cruel souls. Before seeing that pic, I was resigned to a bowl of Alpin for breakfast, now I’m tempted to hop on the bus and order myself a full on, heart attack inducing Irish Breakfast from our local Irish pub.
They even swap out the black pudding for an extra two sausages on request… /melts in pool of slobber…

Nokia’s shares have dropped almost 10% with this announcement. Exactly what they were looking for?

@back_up
ur just a silly little kid.
@metamorphic
Stocks rise and fall thats how they work.
Duno get why Nokia wants to make WP7 its only OS, I mean they could adopt WP7 while still pushing Symbian, Meego and other OSes. Well i guess the new management knows better.
And BTW WP7 is an awesome OS i own an Omnia 7 and it’s the SH*T.

@1 I never thought in my life I would eat Pork n Beans for breakfast until I was in England a couple years back. Had it on the ferry to Calais while looking out on the cliffs of Dover. It was magical, and yummy.

Swapping out the black pudding? That’s the best bit! Quality of sausages in cooked breakfasts also tends to be very poor unless you go somewhere very nice.
@Nokia & MS
This is a good move for both I think. Nokia are well behind and need a differentiator, not just catch up. No one else has gone big on WM7 and this gives them a chance to help shape the direction of what is by all accounts is a decent platform base lacking a few features currently.

@7, worldwide Symbian is like the 2nd largest mobile OS, the problem for Nokia is that their worldwide market share is declining (a year ago they were by far on top) and they’ve completely failed to break into the lucrative US market.
It seems like a move to stay competitive while their brand name still means something.
It is a bit of a kick in the bollocks to anyone who recently bought a Symbian handset though, not to mention all the companies developers.

@8 freedoms_stain: in regards to your last notion, SE and Samsung have dropped support for Symbian on their smartphones back in September, the platform is finished, has been for a while already.

Truthfully, I’d be hard pressed to disagree. I had one in a paste once. Couldn’t believe they’d actually managed to cram all the essentials of an Irish breakfast into one hand sized paste. Lovely it was too.
Oh, and DaMan, this place gets their own home made sausages, so they’re tip top quality. I’m afraid I’m one of those wusses who can’t quite warm to the idea of eating boiled up blood. No matter how good they smell..

Sorry DaMan, I did indeed get you guys confused in the cross fire of fried eggs and Symbian OS’s. LOL.
