Ono: Street Fighter x Tekken not out for two years, no more big announcements until Captivate

street fighter x tekken

Pumped for Street Fighter x Tekken? Of course you are. Release next year? Not a chance.

Producer on the Capcom side of things Yoshinori Ono has told Famitsu that the game won’t be out for at least two years after its announcement, meaning a 2012 release is on the cards.

The only reason it was revealed during its very early development process – Ono said work began one or two months ago – was to do something for the fans, he said.

Formal talks on a project on this scale began a year ago, although there was discussions between Ono and Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada before that about doing something together.

As for when we can expect to hear any more major announcements for the game, you’re in for a long wait: Captivate 2011 looks set to be where the bombs start dropping.

Ono also said that no information will be passed on to each team on the two development teams for each game. For example, the Namco team won’t be passing info on Tekken x Street Fighter, and vice versa with Capcom and Street Fighter x Tekken.

“We’d like to challenge one-another in all areas, including sales, and get fans of both series excited,” he said.

The mashup was announced last night at ComicCon for PS3 and 360. Get the skinny here.

Thanks, Andriasang.

well this is good -at least to me- bcoz frankly it was exactly the same as SSFIV but with new charcters n hav nothin to do with Tekken’s style, but now they hav enough time to make it more palatable 4 Tekken’s fans.

@2 Ummm… that’s what the Tekken X Street Fighter game is for. To emulate Tekken.

And as a Street Fighter fan, I can safely say that Street Fighter X Tekken plays nothing like SSFIV, just from looking at it. Even the combos are completely different, and there seems to be a greater emphasis on combos, which is certainly a nod to Tekken right there.

@3 To be honest it looks like it plays like street fighter.
Why? Firstly because its on the same engine as SSF4 and secondly because this would be Capcom’s take on the Tekken characters.

Most likely the obvious combos/signature moves will be condensed into Street fighter style inputs, just looking at kazuya’s Rising sun combo from the footage, it seems as though it would suit a similar input to Ryu’s Hurricane kick.

what would be interesting is Namco’s version, will ALL the fighters be able to move in 3D?.. only time will tell!! :D

@4 It plays with a similar mechanic as street fighter but it actually mimics more of the VS series comboing system. It will most likely have a light, med, light, med, light, light, med, hard combo system just like the vs. series so therefore it isnt much like Street Fighter 4. it will also have, just like the video shows, a juggling system to continue combos unlike SSF4 where its based on exact timing rather than button comboing.
I’ve been a fighting game veteran since Street Fighter 2 and can see the differences easily.

Ehem…2011 is a busy time for both consoles and not just PS3. I know i will be playing Halo Reach well into 2011 and then there is Gears of War 3 which i will be surely playing well through out 2011. Then PS3 i will for sure be playing inFamous 2, Killzone 3, and LBP2. Then owners of both or either consoles will be playing MVC3 (i will be getting the PS3 version), Dead Space 2 (ps3 again), Batman AA2 (PS3 for me again), Red Faction Arma.(maybe PC but probably PS3)

The juggling and wall bouncing it clearly meant to be a nod towards the mechanics of Tekken. From what I can tell, they’re attempting to maintain the Street Fighter feel while adding certain mechanics native to the Tekken series as well.

Namco looks like it’s going to have a high standard to live up to with their game.

Should they make CHUCK NORRIS a playable character – I’m pre-ordering ASAP.

Seriously, as a TEKKEN follower… I would have preferred a full-blown TEKKEN-SOUL CALIBUR game instead.
