Toulouse: Kinect is the “perfect name”

Microsoft’s director of policy and enforcement for Xbox Live Stephen Toulouse has said that he believes Kinect is the perfect name for the motion device previously known as Project Natal.
“People will either like it or dislike it, proclaim it to be an inspired choice or a mistake that will doom the product to failure,” Toulouse wrote on his blog following the announcement of the name.
“I, like many others, decried Nintendo naming their new console the Wii. And yet look at how many units it’s sold. The trick is in the magic of the experience.”
“Evoking both ‘Kinetic’ and ‘Connection’, it embodies so much of what the technology achieves when you actually use it…
He also went on to congratulate the marketing team, although he didn’t hold out much hope of them being praised.
“Critics always s*** all over the marketing people who choose names they don’t like, and when they really nail it, rarely give them the honours they deserve.
“So congratulations to the marketing folks in our group. Kinect is a perfect name for this technology, you nailed it. And I simply cannot wait for everyone to be able to use it.”
Microsoft revealed the formal name of the device last night in LA at a special event.
More will be revealed tonight, including the exact price and hopefully a few more games.
Thanks, Eurogamer

it saddens me to see all of your news report since yesterday is about kinect and nothing but kinect. and they say Microsoft doesn’t hype! what is this then, uber-hype?

The Wii may have sold zillions, but it’s still the shittest name in existence, ever.
Imagine how many it would have sold had it been called Revolution ;P

He does? Does Sony marketing team believe Move is the perfect name, too? They do? How surprising.
This is reaching as something to be given its own news banner – this should have been a footnote to some other Kinect stuff it’s so non-news.

If by “perfect” you mean “lame”, then I agree.

FYI, I’m a PC gamer, have both consoles but doesn’t play much on any of them, although I admit I’m a die hard Metal Gear Solid fan I’m not a mindless fanboy like most of folks here. so stop making a fanboy outa everyone u seen made a negative comment about your beloved company…
