First shots of Kinect under its new guise [Update]

kinect

Update: Gizmodo’s taken its own shots of Kinect from the event. Get them here.

Original: Natal is dead. Long live Kinect.

Engadget has the first shots of the motion camera under its new guise, as announced earlier in its Project Natal Experience event.

Get them at the link.

A release date, or price, wasn’t given by Microsoft during the event, but did say at the end that more details would come during its main press conference tonight.

Pat and Nathan will be there for us at the Wiltern Theater, while myself, Steph and Joe will be newsifying your asses from home in the UK and US. The magic begins from 10am PST/6pm BST.

Looks like from that sci-fi video from previous E3.

But for 189$? 1.8.9.$ ? To play Kinetic Sports, Kinecticans, jumping around or whatever? Wow…

Looks nice. Will fit under the TV in most homes. Will look nice on our white high-gloss TV-bench.

However, these are official pictures, and when you put this next to the rumoured 360 slim outed by that italian ad they share nothing in terms of design aestetics. Will Microsoft really make such a blunder and not coordinate the designs, or is it just that the one picture from the ad isn’t really representive of how it looks? Or is it simply a fake (the ad, that is)?

@5 I think the slim has Kinetic built in, does it not?

Does it? Or are you inadvertently leaking info there? :P

How the fuck is that supposed to work with the centre channel of a Home Cinema setup, I assumed that you would be able to mount it above the TV like the Wii sensor bar. It doesn’t look like that’s going to be possible with the whacking great big base on the Kinect, so I will be forced to resort to putting it on the same shelf as my centre speaker, which will 1) Look shite and 2) in all probability fuck the voice recognition royally.

Was going to get this, not so sure now.

Indeed, i’d have the same problem. Except i would have to balance it on top of my central speaker… And it has a slopped top. :S

The redesign lends credence to the slim 360 information. The edges on Kinect looks far sharper now which correspond with the re-worked form factor.

@ It’s even worse if your home cinema has a projector/beamer setup. Any beamer is placed behind the viewer/player, and so are are all the consoles which are connected to the beamer.

So how are you supposed use “Kinect” with this kind of setup ???
