Alan Wake reviews start to awaken – round up

It’s happening: no more delays for Alan Wake. It’s definitely coming next week for Europeans, which is why the online embargo has just lifted.
Opinion on it so far seems to be go out and buy it when it does launch. Or place your pre-order down as soon as humanly possible.
Get rounded-up below
The only tiny blip on Remedy’s radar was the seven given by Eurogamer. Everything else since has been great scores as of the time of writing.
Round-up is below.
- Eurogamer – 7
- FileFront – 91%
- Planet Xbox360 – 9.2
- Videogamer – 9
- 1UP – B+
- GiantBomb – 4/5
- D’Toid – 9
- G4 – 4/5
- Joystiq – N/A
- IGN – 9 (video review below)
- GT – 8.6
- CVG – 9
If you have any reviews to add, add them below in comments.
Alan Wake releases next Friday in Europe and May 18 in the US for Xbox 360.

“Hilarious” wouldn’t be the word I’d use.

I dunno. Watching people trying to eat each other’s normally a good laugh.

Case in point here is an example:
PS Absolutely loving all the drama. A woman? Reviewing games? She’d better be using a wireless controller because a cabled one won’t reach the kitchen!

@59 for these years you can make a masterpiece.
It really looks like an Alone In the Dark on Steroids. Shooting – cars – bad plot
There are certainly interesting moments with earthquakes and monsters and e.t.c. but thats… =\

@60 … right. Maybe it’s not a so called AAA-masterpiece. So what? It wasn’t supposed to be the systemshifter anyways imo. See, i’m enyoing games for, hmm, let me guess, 35years now. And to me it sounds thrilling and fascinating and i can’t wait to get my hands on da not-AAA-shiet!

I see Alan Wake as a survival horror game, with probably not incredibly much action but more exploring.Enough scares, and one hell of a atmosphere. And i actually apreciate a very good atmosphere alot…ALOT!
Maybe for the people who have been hyping this one up like crazy, are dissapointed now, but i wasn’t one of them. I am just looking forward to playing it.
But i said it once, and i’ll do it again. A site that gives Dead Space the same rating as Alone in the dark is laughable, really, it is. Alone in the dark had its moments of fun but was overshadowed by waaaaay too many mediocre and at times annoying moments and BUGS! Dead Space? One hell of a game, up there with the Resident Evils, sigh. INfamous, awesome game, great story and fun as hell, but hey…that’s just me right?

@61 yeah am the same, not once have i thought “goty” as i’ve said the eurogamer review is getting a lot more attention for many reasons whilst the other reviews in the main seem to suggest its a excellent purchase so i’m a bit puzzled by it all, reminds me of the heavy rain review saga.
think i’ll stay away from neogaf for a while aswell.

@62 Absolutely agree with you on that.
@61 Actually it’s a AAA title from the creators of Max Payne. In Eastern Countries and Russia thats just a shit ton of hype around it.

@64 Oh the hype. Like Heavy-Rain-hype? Or MGS? Or (4 God’s sake) Halo? C’mon it will still be a really good game if it get’s niners ‘n tenners elsewhere …

oh snap, a 7 from EG lol. hmm.. so turns out it is actually just an Alan in the Dark.
and @6 Hunam – who gave SH2 a 6 when it came out, some obscure start up site? oh, and for the record no it isn’t ‘recognized as the best in the genre by the gaming press’. if anything, the original is often used as an example of survival horror’s pinnacle. my favourite game =/= best game ever

Any journalist who makes a news story on the site they work for attempting to justify their own ego is a hack of the highest order… and an egotist to boot.
Also… Alan Wake. <3

why do i have the strange feeling eurogamer gives these scores all the time just to be mentioned in all the forums like crazy…damn – i did it as well – i can´t judge the game, haven´t played it yet – but i will…also i will keep on checking eurogamer and i will continue to be sceptical by reviews in general. i loved lost planet 1 and enjoyed the hell out of the multiplayer for a long time and it only received mehh reviews…i didn´t enjoy bioshock 2 at all and it got 9´s….i´ll trust my guts, my hardly earned years of gaming experience and gameplay vids

Woah no way, its like Alone in the dark because it has shooting and cars, and a bad plot that you know all about because you’ve finished it and can comment on it?

@74 saw Gametrailers review on it. Plot was kinda lame by comments on it. Some dialogs are just ugh… I need to check this out anyway. Maybe i’m wrong.
but from the reviews and gmeplay trailers it looks like Alone In The Dark on steroids.
