UK charts: Just Cause 2 overthrows GoW III from top spot

justcause22

Just Cause 2 has become this week’s number one in the latest UK charts.

The Avalanche-developed sequel has overthrown God of War III from its position last week a fair distance to seventh.

Meanwhile, the highest new entrants are the two new Pokemon games for DS, with SoulSilver in second and HeartGold in fourth. Pitty, mind, about Red Steel 2: it entered at 34th.

Full top ten below. Last week’s charts are here.

  • 1 – Just Cause 2 (Avalanche/Square Enix)
  • 2 – Pokemon SoulSilver (The Pokemon Company/Nintendo)
  • 3 – Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (EA DICE/EA)
  • 4 – Pokemon HeartGold (The Pokemon Company/Nintendo)
  • 5 – Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft/Ubisoft)
  • 6 – Modern Warfare 2 (Infinity Ward/Activision)
  • 7 – God of War III (Sony Santa Monica/Sony Computer Entertainment)
  • 8 – Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix/Square Enix)
  • 9 – Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo/Nintendo)
  • 10 – Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo/Nintendo)

Even Modern Warfare 2 sells better. Dissapointment.

Battlefield:Bad Company 2 and God Of War III deserve the 1st spot.

Wow, quite the drop for God of War – I was expecting that to be troubling the top three for at least another few weeks.

I think the announcement of the trilogy pack will have kept a few people from jumping in week two.

I doubt the trilogy had any notable effect. It’s more likely that the title has been so long in coming that those who wanted it straight away got it. I expect it will stick around the top 40 for a long time though.

They really should have got an updated demo out for release too.

God of war has never been a huge ip in Europe. Its North America where it sell the most.

SoulSilver beat HeartGold? I thought it would be the opposite.

Doesn’t look like 9 weeks at No. 1 is going to be beaten any time soon, then!

Even bigger pity about Resonance of Fate, which didn’t reach the Top 40.

@9: that’s the only real reason indeed.

Great news for Avalanche and it’s a real fun game so why not?

Of course, Pokemon is actually the real number one – if you look at the individual charts Gold and Silver got the first two positions. If they counted as one game instead of two then it’d have been top of the all-formats chart too.

No kidding it was overthrown. Just Cause 2 is multiplatform and a good game. The fact that they’re on the same chart is impressive.
