Alan Wake trailer shows man fight combine harvester with torch

alanwake3

Microsoft just pitched a new Alan Wake trailer, showing off a ton of pretty misery, torch-play and angry farming equipment. Get it after the break.

The Remedy definitely-not-a-horror-it’s-a-psychological-action-thriller was looking in awesome form at a recent London event, as you can now see it for yourself. This video’s part of the assets given out then; there’s a bunch of other stuff embargoed until March 16.

Alan Wake has been in the works since 2005, and follows a stalled writer on a Twin Peaks-style adventure through the Pacific Northwest.

You can read the interview we conducted with Remedy’s Oskari Häkkinen at the London shindig here. The game’s out in May, for 360 only.

I think I’d have been more impressed if the combine harvester had chewed Alan up instead of bouncing him back a bit. Insta-kills can be annoying in games, but surely if you’re going to have a combine harvester as an enemy, being rapidly chewed up and spat out should be part of the threat? Otherwise why not just use an ordinary tractor?

Hang on, hang on, hang on…

…did Alan just get hit at FULL PELT by a combine harvester, and he’s still standing?

What.

The Fuck.

Remedy have an answer to any odd things that happen in the game such as him getting hit by the combine harvester, and that is, it happens in the book that Alan can’t remember writing, since all the events of the book are playing out

…language of the mad…looks sweet, but i agree with that harvester thing, he should be a pile of shredded bones after that…still can´t wait to play this…

I’d wager that one hit on the right difficulty level will mash you up nicely. :)

I love everything I see about this game apart from the game itself.

I’m just not getting it. I love stuff like Silent Hill, Siren Blood Curse etc. which are genuinely unsettling, but this just looks like usual Western (US especially) unscary thriller.

The engine looks amazing, the lighting looks amazing, etc. but ‘smoke’ men and angry farm machinery? Not doing it for me. I want deeply unsettling atmosphere that makes you afraid to open the next door, and Alan Wake has never conveyed that sense to me.

No doubt it’ll sell well with the Western masses who flock to US versions of Japanese horror, but I’d love to see something with more meat and risk built on that engine myself.

Look kids, harvester dissapear at the end. Wouldn’t be a little unreal to Alan and Remedy if unreal Harvester eats the main charachter! Remedy is bounch of superinteligent people!

are you guys serious? the video is lame.. it looks like any other action game.. where is some STORY trailers? and he still alive after getting hit by the combine? so fucking lame, at least in RE5 it would have been a death.

Well yeah of course it would have been a death in RE5 because he wouldn’t be able to move and shoot….

this game looks like a horror B-movie.

I’m guessing you’ve not seen the things this game draws inspiration from? :D

Steven King + Twin Peaks + Lost

Sounds like they pulled it off. ;)
