March 19 UK date for GoW III is tracking date only, says SCEE

SCEE’s told VG247 that a March 19 UK release of God of War III that has popped up today is only a tracking date thus far, and not the confirmed release date yet.
It comes as several sites, including WonderWall Web and Electronic Theatre, reported the date was signed, seal and delievered within the past hour.
But a Sony rep gave us the following statement:
“That is the date we’re tracking for the UK but it’s not confirmed.”
The firm’s told us already to expect a UK date “in a few weeks.”
Sony already had the game down for March 25 in Japan, while SCEA has it penned in for release on March 16, according to GameStop.
A bundle for the actioner is also planned.
Some new shots were release just now. Go get them.

Waiting to announce a release date is actually more beneficial for a title than it is.
It’s generally been accepted from past experience that delaying a title that already has a confirmed release date can significantly reduce sales. They’re just playing it safe.

Really SCEE? A game releasing in about a months time and yet you do not have a firm date? Seriously?

Probably waiting for an opportunity to delay it.

The game’s finished and has been for nearly two months. Only something absolutely exceptionally bad is going to delay it.

@Eregol,
Ive no idea why they just don’t say a date? But ive no idea how these things work, especially with SCEE, im guessing its a bit more complicated when it comes to Europe.

The God of War series isn’t exactly know for it’s characters waxing lyrical in great reams of dialogue.
Surely they could get decent translations done in quite quick time.
Hell, even Square Enix have got the western versions coming out shortly after the jap version. Which must be harder to translate.

It takes a while to pass submission, press discs etc…
That’s why it’s not got a date. They’ll know when it passes submission. The last game not to pass submission by Sony and got delayed… LittleBigPlanet

Except it already has two dates, from Sony, for Japan and the US.
So this whole “bug ridden potential delay” thing can’t be the case.

Freek – actually, only one date confirmed thus far.
Japan on March 25. SCEE and SCEA is still to confirm theirs, hence why March 19 is the date that is being looked at by SCEE.

Maybe they are leaving it as close to release as possible to anounce the date, so they can move it if another publisher decides to put out another big game on the same date.
Afterall there are plenty of free weeks at the moment, and plenty of games immenent without solid dates.

it will definitely hit stores from 19 within the end of March. They just don’t have the exact date.they want to play it safe. What’s the big deal,if it isn’t 19 and it’s 24? (example). Some people need to chill out

Believe it or not releasing a game involves more than one company. When SCEE say they’re targeting a particular date but cannot confirm it yet it simply means that the necessary agreements with manufacturers, distributors, and retailers are not finalised yet.
