Infinity Ward: We’ll do something different when we run out of ideas for Call of Duty

The Internet may be showing all the textbook symptoms of Modern Warfare 2-mania, but it’s never too early to start anticipating Infinity Ward’s next game. Well, okay, this might be jumping the gun a bit, but still.
Videogamer asked Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling about his company’s next project, to which he replied:
“Honestly we have no clue what our next game is. I’m planning on taking a nap for three months. And then maybe I’ll wake up.”
“When we feel like we can’t innovate any further in the Call of Duty franchise, then we’ll do something else. A lot of that mentality went into Modern Warfare 2. That’s why it’s Modern Warfare 2. It is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but you’ll never see that in game. We never call it that. It’s because we think of this as a new IP. This is our Modern Warfare 2 game. So we are constantly doing new stuff.”
“But yeah, eventually we’ll do something else, and it will be fun and it will be awesome and it will be fresh and it will be great.”
So there you have it. Infinity Ward’s eventual future won’t be modern. Or something.

Really ? then why dont i see much of those innovation so far then ?
If they consider they did that much new things , then i guess they wont leave COD anytime soon

Surely “We’ll do something different when you stop buying the same old shit” would be a more honest statement.

They’re owned by Acti-Bliz. Like it’s ever going to be their choice if they want to stop making one of the company’s giant moneyspinner franchises.

Yeah right, tell the one about Goldilocks while you’re at it. It’s like Bungie saying they would stop doing Halo.

No matter what they do its still gonna be CoD. I don’t know about anyone else but I am drowning in FPS. The older I get the less most games excite me, and FPS are the worst of the bunch. Anyone think that CoD9 will be any different from CoD5. Me either.

First of all, IW didn’t make CoD5.
They’ve only made 1, 2 and 4 so far.
Secondly, CoD9 will be totally immersive VR, surely…?

Guess that was my point. Hard to tell one CoD from another.

I dunno… Only if you don’t really play them in any great depth.
Most CoD fans absolutely hate CoD3, for example, so the difference is easy to tell once you play them.
But anyway, I don’t really mind them not being much different from each other.
Most, if not all, of my favourite games are the latest version in a big franchise. CoD, Half Life, Gears, GT/Forza, TD Unlimited, Midnight Club, FIFA, CM/FM, etc.
It’s the continual refinement in gameplay that makes the next version usually turn out to be just that little bit better than the last one.

Your right. I’d kill for the next Civ game. Or the MechAsault one. The only thing that does get me about CoD is they come out with a new one so fast. But that seems to be the Acti way of doing things: GH and Tony Hawk sping to mind.

Yeah. The way that Acti do that does sort of devalue the brand a bit.
In a way, the 2 year cycle between AAA games builds up the sense of enjoyment when the next version comes along…
It’s strange, but true!
