Sacred 2 developer Ascaron Entertainment filed for bankruptcy protection on April 14, reports WorthPlaying.

According to the site, delays may have attributed to the firm’s financial issues.

To try and get another company interesting in acquiring the studio, it was revealed that an add-on for Sacred 2 is scheduled for release this summer, as is a third installment.

Man, I really hate to hear this. I have the first Sacred and Loved it on the PC. I no longer PC game anymore, but do own all 3 consoles, PS3, Wii, 360. The only way I will get to play Sacred 2 is on the Console. So I will be buying Day One!!! Would love to see this Game Do Super Great On Console to Help ensure more games like this come to consoles!

I own Sacred 2 for the PC. I like it, no question, but it IS different from Sacred in my opinion, as a full 3D World needs some rethinking. Took me really two days of playing to really get the controls but since then it is very fluent, similar to an FPS control, from the buttons side.

Still, this isn’t the first time Ascaron file for bankruptcy. Last time the new founded Ascaron GmbH took over and it is sad to see that the maker of Patrizier, Gilde, Antoss and Sacred (all franchises I like personally) is again deep down.

It is sad especially because Sacred 2 sold about 400k units on PC. Maybe half a million with Steam and other online sellers. We live in times where nearly half a million sold copies cannot repay the development and ensure another one. The question really is, is it needed to get these sales or was it mis-management?

Still I think it is disturbing to see this development, not taken into account whose fault this is. I really understand and see how much production value have been put into e.g. Sacred 2 but maybe whole business have to rethink then, if you need sales like GTA or GoW to keep up, because how much games gross such profit? I once saw a figure of 10% but I would suggest its even less.

At least they filed the bankruptcy early enough to ensure 3 month of security by insolvency so they can release Sacred 2 for consoles as it just went gold. Hope they pull themselves together and get up again.

I doubt those sales werent enough to repay development . It’s quite unlikely when blockbusters and big budget games such as yakuza 3 or resident evil 5 can repay their dev+ad campaign already within the first 500k sold .

    Something went amiss elsewhere
