While Red Dead Redemption 2 has plenty of settings for players to configure and mess around with, as well as plenty of ways to customise your HUD, one thing that is tripping some players up is the ability to change the language of subtitles. Doing this in RDR2 isn't all that straight-forward, it seems.

And that's because you can't actually change subtitle language in-game in Red Dead Redemption 2. Players are going to have to venture forth and mess with some other settings instead. So, to give you a helping hand, here's how to change subtitle language in Red Dead Redemption 2, on both PC and console.

How to change subtitle language in Red Dead Redemption 2

It isn't at all obvious how you change the language of your subtitles in Red Dead Redemption 2, so don't fret if you're having trouble doing so. It turns out that to change the language of your game and subtitles, you actually have to this via your game launcher or console settings.

If you are playing on PC, you will need to make sure you have quit Red Dead Redemption 2 to desktop first. Once the game is closed, open the Rockstar Launcher and head into the settings menu. Here, you can change the language of the launcher to your chosen one. Close the launcher and reopen it once completed. Once you then reopen RDR2, your game and subtitles should correspond with the langauge you have chosen.

On console, players will need to do something similar. Though, first things first, some players have reported that simply turning subtitles on and off on their console returned the game back to their default language. Give that a go, and failing that, you'll need to go into your console's settings and manually set your chosen language. Restart the console and boot up the game, and voila, your subtitles should be in the langauge that you want them to be.

Can you change subtitle language in-game in Red Dead Redemption 2?

Unfortunately, if you want to change the language while playing Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll need to actually exit your game to do so. As of right now, there is still no way to change the language of your subtitles via the in-game settings. Though, you can change whether they're on or not, and whether character names are included in them.
