Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance PC offline play issues blamed on Steam API - report

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance cannot be played offline at present, apparently due to a Steam issue.

Users report that if your Internet drops out, or Steam is in offline mode, Revengeance won't load.

One NeoGAF member has found a workaround that seems to suggest the problem is an issue with Steam's API. The workaround requires using a cracked version of Steam so is absolutely not recommended.

Platinum Games has been made aware of the issue, with creative producer J.P. Kellams, noting on Twitter yesterday that he would "ask first thing" about the problem. His comment would seem to defray fears that Steam and Konami had quietly introduced an always-on DRM policy - an unlikely scenario.

The PC version launched on Steam today but it's mysteriously unavailable in some territories, as some users discovered to their dismay during the pre-order window.

Thanks, Polygon.
