FNaF World released too early, Five Nights at Freddy's creator admits

Five Nights at Freddy's is famous for its rapid release schedule, but maybe went too far with it this time.

Five Nights at Freddy's spin-off RPG FNaF World released last week, well ahead of its scheduled February launch.

This was not surprising to fans, who are used both to Scott Cawthon's spanking development pace and his tendency to release ahead of announced dates. What was surprising, though, is that FNaF World didn't feel quite finished.

Cawthon quite agrees with this assessment.

"I’ve been accused of rushing my games ever since FNaF 1, but I’ve never felt that I’d released a game too early... until now," he wrote in a Steam Community post.

"There are a lot of features that this game should have had before release, features that I was told about, but ignored and didn’t implement. Features such as being able to see what abilities do during battle, or being able to see a stats page for your characters. These are features that any good RPG would have.

"I got too eager to show the things that were finished, that I neglected to pay attention to the things that weren’t."

Cawthon said he felt he owed this uncomfortable admission to the community, and said he'll be patching in much-requested features over the coming weeks.

"I’m sorry. I will continue to add features to the game and make it right," he added.

Cawthon began updating FNaF World immediately, and the RPG already has a new overworld map and attack command descriptions, as well as Byte and Chips descriptions in the appropriate menus. See? There are plenty of times when that rapid development cycle is a good thing, too.
