Deus Ex series on hold after Mankind Divided's underwhelming sales

Deus Ex: Human Revolution's poor sales means the franchise is taking a break.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launched last year and was greeted with favourable reviews, but the sales numbers told a different story.

Despite debuting at no.1 in its first week, the title didn't do nearly as well as its predecessor Human Revolution and this has had predictable consequences.

Eurogamer reports that the series has been "placed on hiatus" as a result.

Square Enix has the new Marvel project to work on and a potential upcoming Tomb Raider title that they're beavering away on, so focusing efforts on Deus Ex may not be profitable for a while.

In a statement issued to Eurogamer they said, "While we are still working on expanding the Deus Ex Universe, along with creating new content and updates for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, we're also devoting our talents towards working with Crystal Dynamics and Marvel on The Avengers project."
