Check out this VR game about being a useless spy, which turns one of the weaknesses of virtual reality games into something really cool

I Expect You To Die is clever on a couple of different levels.

I Expect You To Die is a virtual reality escape-the-room puzzle adventure for Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR, launching December 6.

Check out the trailer above, which really made me laugh. The way the player flails around in a panic is so true to life; VR game footage really communicates human gestures in a way all the motion captured but ultimately artificial animations in other games can't manage.

What I really like about this game premise is that it turns a weakness of VR games on its head. Right now VR has a control problem - motion controllers just don't adapt well to precision gaming, and because you've got no tactile feedback, you often find yourself fumbling around with disembodied hands.

In I Expect You To Die, that's part and parcel of the experience - when you open the glove box and it's full of bombs, you're supposed to flail. Flailing is the immersed, in-character response.

That's pretty cute. I like it. I also like the way the narration at the end of the trailer plays on the old "No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die" thing in a way that divorces it from its original context.
