Awesome Games Done Quick 2021 raised over $2.7 million for charity

Awesome Games Done Quick 2021 raised a massive $2,758,847 for charity at the beginning of 2021, providing something of an antidote to the otherwise miserable start to the year.

The seven-day speedrunning marathon, also known as AGDQ 2021, came to an end at the start of the week having managed to secure a magnificent $2,758,847 million in donations from the game-playing public – the second-highest amount ever raised during the event after last year's impressive marathon.

Money raised over the course of this year's speedrunning showcase will be donated to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, the only U.S-based nonprofit organization solely dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection.

This year saw some notable highlights – even by GDQ's usual lofty standards. Whether you want to wrap your eyes around a three-weapon Hades run being smashed in an hour, all C-sides of Celeste completed on a dance pad, a Sonic 1 world record run, or a mind-blowing Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment run that makes a very tricky game look like a cakewalk, GDQ has you covered.

Better yet, there's still time to donate: if you want to add a pledge to the ever-increasing donation fund, simply head on over to the GDQ website and you'll find all the instructions you need.

The vast majority of the runs recorded during this year's marathon are live now – with more being uploaded at the time of writing, too – and you can watch them all on the AGDQ 2021 Youtube playlist.

If this has piqued your interest in the passionate and intense world of speedrunning, you can browse various communities over on SpeedRun.com.

Summer Games Done Quick will be the next big event in the speedrunning calendar and usually takes place in August.
