Some areas in Cyberpunk 2077 have been ruined by global warming

Today’s Night City Wire livestream revealed lots of new details about Cyberpunk 2077 – including the fact that global warming has ravaged one of the game’s primary areas.

The first half of today’s stream primarily focused on the three distinct lifepaths in Cyberpunk 2077: Corpo, Street Kid, and Nomad. If you want a breakdown of what each lifepath entails, we’ve already put together some explainers for Corpos, Street Kids, and Nomads. But that’s not what we’re discussing here – instead, we’re going to focus on global warming in Cyberpunk 2077.

“Time has not been kind to the Badlands,” said Cyberpunk 2077 senior quest designer Philipp Weber during today’s Night City Wire livestream. Weber went on to specifically say that global warming has taken its toll on these areas – as you can see from the concept art above, they are barren and dilapidated, and are a far cry from the neon skylines of Night City.

It makes sense – given how significant an impact global warming has already had on contemporary society, it’s no wonder it has consumed entire areas by the time Cyberpunk 2077’s fictional dystopia rolls around.

According to Weber, players will be able to take their car and traverse the vast deserts of the Badlands at their leisure – although he specifically notes that some players might not necessarily want to do this, given that it’s not exactly the safest activity in the world.

If you’re hungry for more information on Cyberpunk 2077, we’ve got you covered. Although CD Projekt Red isn’t completely happy with the game’s melee system right now, they’re “working on it.” On top of that, we recently published an extensive interview with CD Projekt Red collecting everything you need to know about weapons in Cyberpunk 2077, including details on the Mantis Blades, recoil, Legendary weapons, and more.

In related news, here’s how Cyberpunk 2077 is avoiding typically irritating “bullet sponge” RPG enemies.
