Players are reporting issues with the latest Red Dead Online update

It’s the nature of live service games that sometimes things go wrong, and Red Dead Online update 1.9 seems to have caused a bunch of issues for many players.

One of the main issues is with the Moonshiners content. Some players are reporting that their Moonshine Shack has disappeared and the game is prompting them to pay $250 of in-game currency to re-purchase it.

Apparently the best approach here is to reload your game a few times until your shack returns, without paying the fee. You might have to jump between a few lobbies until it works.

It’s also probably worth holding off doing any Moonshine sell missions, since these aren’t always paying out what they should be - in fact, some people are saying they’ve not been paid anything upon successful completion.

Other players are saying that they have lost the ability to log in at all, though on PC a few have found a workaround in deleting the Social Club folder from their files. There’s another issue with supply missions introduced in this patch, too, where you get stuck in an infinite loading screen when you attempt to trigger one.

The Collector role has a new bug where items such as Arrowheads and Alcohol Bottles won’t spawn in, though Tarot Cards and Bird Eggs seem to be unaffected. Joining a new session fixes this in some instances.

Elsewhere, players are also reporting a lack of wild animals in their sessions. Rockstar has put out a fix for wildlife spawns in Red Dead Online previously, but the effects were short-lived and it’s obviously an issue the developer is struggling to solve.

For now, players are using workarounds to hunt animals. If you take on the Tobin Winfield mission and do the Legendary Bounty, you get placed into a private session with infinite time.

It seems to be the existence of other players that makes the game struggle to spawn animals in, so this private session will be filled with wildlife, allowing you to hunt. However, you can only take skins with you, as carcasses and large skins like bear pelts won’t come with you when the mission is over. Keep your weapon holstered or you will drop the pelts.

We’ve reached out to Rockstar for more information on what was contained in the patch and we’ll let you know if we hear back.
