The Nintendo Switch, and the newly released Pokemon Let’s Go games ranked among the hottest items on Black Friday, and Thanksgiving.
Adobe Insights, the analytics service offered by Adobe, charted the top-selling products across a wide range of categories in the year’s crucial shopping seasons like Black Friday week.
Insights tracks online retailers specifically, which is likely where the majority of shopping is done. On Thanksgiving day, the Nintendo Switch was the top-selling product, overtaking Beats, and Hot Wheels toys. Red Dead Redemption 2 wasn’t far behind, at number four.
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, too, saw a lot of traction on Black Friday, landing at number four. Pokemon was followed by God of War. Though the Switch didn’t chart on Black Friday, it got a boost the next day as a result of sales at “small businesses”. Likewise, Red Dead Redemption 2 was one spot behind Switch on Saturday.
Cyber Monday saw a return of the Switch once again, occupying the third spot. The console was the only gaming product to land in the top five on Cyber Monday. The Switch was so popular, in fact, that the only major sale day in November where it didn’t show up was the day before Thanksgiving, according to Adobe.
The success of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee is certainly impressive considering the game wasn’t offered at a discount, and had to go against stiff competition from many other AAA releases, most of which were deeply discounted during the week. This may also have indirectly boosted Switch sales during the same week.
