Torment: Tides of Numenera team welcomes Chris Avellone

inXile has confirmed that Chris Avellone will officially join the design team for Torment: Tides of Numenera, according to a press release issued by the firm.

The project has hits its $3.5 million stretch goal, thanks to other monies thrown at it through PayPal. The Kickstarter total is sitting at $3,452,819.

Chris Avellone was lead designer on Planescape: Torment, the inspiration behind Torment: Tides of Numenera. He is co-founder of Obsidian Entertainment, and the firm's creative director.

He was also lead designer for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, and and last year he worked with inXile on its Wasteland 2 project.

Avellone's "primary role" on Torment: Tides of Numenera will be to "review and provide feedback on all creative elements of the game, including the story, characters, and gameplay areas."

In addition, he will write an eighth companion for the game deal for both Torment and the Ninth World.

Set in the world of Monte Cook's Numenera, the project reached its target funding level on Kickstarter within the first six hours of the 30-day campaign when it launched on March 6.

inXile has outlined further stretch goals for up to $4.5 million, which will include a more complicated morality system, "a player stronghold, and new locations."

The project's initial release timeframe was recently delayed, so expect it to hit Linux, Mac and PC sometime in early to mid 2015.
