“Darksiders was a huge risk because it was an old game in a new shell for us and for THQ because it’s a new studio, nobody there had made a console game before and it was a new IP. On paper, to be honest I don’t know why THQ went for it. I mean, the tech demo really nailed it, but I think any other publisher would just say ‘No way, but more power to you’, but they did. Then the game itself was a risk – we’re talking about a game that has an almost old-generation mentality where we’re willing to challenge you and not spoonfeed you the whole time. We had a strong tech demo and it looked really good, plus we had an engine. We created that engine, so I’m sure that if Darksiders had failed, there’d still be that engine there that’s worth pursuing.” – Vigil Games’ Jay Fitzloff to MCV on the riskiness of Darksiders.

The hardware for Wii U is currently “on par” with that of PS3 or 360, Darksiders II director Marvin Donald has said.

New Darksiders II shots have released following a new showing of the Vigil action title at the Xbox Showcase in San Francisco last week. One of the summer’s big hits is still looking in fine form, and remains one to watch. Get the screens below the break.
It’s out June 26 in the US and on June 29 in the UK for PS3, 360 and PC.

THQ has announced Danish composer Jesper Kyd whose previous efforts include Assassin’s Creed and the Hitman series, will provide the original score for Darksiders II.

Darksiders II features skill trees and corpse-looting. Seriously. We got to see it last week in San Francisco: read and believe. THQ’s released a new trailer as it’s so happy to be publishing the Vigil sequel, showing off Death’s history in all its deathliness. Watch it below.

AGB‘s posted nine new shots of Darksiders 2. The shots of Death preface the Vigil action sequel’s launch later this year, which looks set to be all kinds of awesome. Get them at the link.
DS2 will launch on PS3, 360 and PC in June, THQ core boss Danny Bilson told us in August last year. A Wii U version is also in the works for its launch.

If you weren’t tuned into the VGAs this weekend, you might have missed this new Darksiders 2 trailer, which aired during a commercial break. Blood, drama and lovingly realised living skeletons through the break.

Vigil Games is bringing Death to the Wii U. Literally. Where the original Darksiders focussed on horseman War, the sequel will focus on his brother, Death. The hack’n'slash is a launch title for Nintendo’s new console, and it’s a refreshingly unusual choice.

Someone on YouTube’s put up about a minute-and-a-half of gameplay footage of Darksiders II, the first time actual gameplay has been shown of the game. It shows new main character Death with multiple new moves and weapons. It looks pretty friggin’ sweet, as you’ll see below the break.
