Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers can't be charged using the bundled grip

You'll have to fork out for the official grip that does.

The Nintendo Switch reveal last week showered us with a bunch of details on the console and its games and you can catch up with everything over on our Nintendo Switch hub page.

Along with a hardware tour, the list of accessories you’ll be able to pick up were detailed and priced. As well as additional Joy-Con controllers, you can also grab yourself a Joy-Con controller charging grip.

Even if you’re not planning on splashing out £75 for an extra pair of controllers, you’d be wise to pick one up anyway, because the grip in the box doesn’t actually charge them. Which is perhaps another way that Nintendo managed to hit their target price point of $300 for the console.

The official site states that the controllers need around 3 and a half hours to fully charge, and that their battery life is approximately 20 hours which may reduce over time depending on usage.

It’s not the end of the world if you don’t pick one up but it’s a bummer that the bundled grip won’t do the job.

The Switch launches worldwide on March 3 and you can pre-order the console and accessories now.
