League of Legends is getting a serious makeover

League of Legends is getting its first major overhaul in six years.

League of Legends developer Riot is working on an all-new client for the phenomenally popular free-to-play MOBA, abandoning the old tech completely for a completely fresh build.

The new client will better support ongoing content and feature updates, and will also visually unite the user interface with a shiny new look.

New social features will be added including Parties, Clubs and a Friends mobile app. The client will also support a resource-light, standalone friends list so you can stay connected - great for multi-tasking while you organise a game.

Riot will be offering alpha access to the client throughout the 2016 season, and has asked level 30 players with good behaviour records from around the world to volunteer for this "bumpy" experience. Sign-ups will open next year; keep an eye on the League of Legends 2016 season site.
