The Walking Dead mobile game in the works at Next Games

A new mobile games based on AMC's The Walking Dead series is due to release alongside the fifth season of the popular TV show.

The new game is as yet untitled, but in the works at Next Games, a Helsinki studio founded by former members of Rovio, Supercell and Disney Interactive.

Although no details of the game's genre were provided, comments from Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen suggest it won't be a top-down shooter or similar.

"Our take on the undead survival franchise will match the against-all-odds action and moment-to-moment tension of the TV series," Huuhtanen said.

"We want to find that sweet spot where gameplay and narrative inform and reinforce one another. I can confidently state it's unlike anything we've seen from The Walking Dead franchise on home or mobile gaming hardware before."

AMC president Charlie Collier said it licensed the property to Next Games because the team was willing to re-imagine the world of The Walking Dead.

Expect the new game in October, as that's when the TV show normally kicks off.

This isn't the first mobile game based on the property by any means. TellTale's stand-alone series The Walking Dead is available on iOS, and last year we got The Walking Dead: Assault on Android and iDevice.
