Battlefield 4 gets more PS4 multiplayer fixes, one-hit kill bug explained

Battlefield 4 developer DICE has started rolling out new fixes to the shooter’s multiplayer component. The studio has also elaborated on a variety of issues including the oft-discussed one-hit kill bug and sync issues.

It follows reports that EA’s stock has dropped, following DICE’s decision to halt production of Battlefield 4 DLC and Star Wars: Battlefront until the problems are fixed.

The studio has listed new PS4 fixes on Battlelog, and explained the problems at hand.

Dice’s post begins, “This small patch was pushed live as quickly as possible to deal primarily with the “one-hit kill” bug. We are already working on the next PS4 update that will contain more fixes and have a bigger focus on game stability. Stay tuned.”

The patch notes are as follows:

  • -Fixed the “one-hit kill” bug where damage from a single bullet sometimes was applied multiple times. This could lead to firefights where normal rifles sometimes dealt one-shot kills, which is not as designed.
  • -Fixed a crash that could occur when having a very large amounts of Friends
  • -Enabled audio in PS4 video captures

The studio then explained that the one-hit kill bug and sync issues are similar on the surface but two very different issues. They wrote, “We are seeing reports from people that this is still present, with descriptions such as “I came around the edge of a building and died instantly”. It is important to understand that this is not the One-hit Kill Bug, that is another issue that we are working on addressing. For this, it is important to understand how some of the interpretations made by the game happen so that you can understand the difference.

“We saw an issue where a bullet travelling towards an opponent would cause damage in one frame, and then again in the next frame. Therefore bullets would cause 2x damage if they hit the target between these two frames. This issue has been addressed.

“The issue of dying before you saw who shot you is a different beast. We use a term called Interpolation in reference to where you are in the game world. There are instances where the death camera is initiated before the correct internet packets have arrived to be interpolated by your camera. This gives the impression that you were killed by “one shot” as someone came around the corner of a building. We have identified this issue and will address it in upcoming updates.”

Have you been killed in one shot inexplicably during a Battlefield 4 match? I know I certainly have. Let us know below.

I’m pretty sure they fixed three issues. I know audio’s now enabled in my video captures.

Re: one-hit-kills, I’ve never noticed it (but assume it has happened). Things move too fast to tell if you were hit with one bullet or 3.

it’s definitely better now. i’m 20h in the mp and couldn’t really get into the flow of the game for a good while. now i’m improving. skill level is 250 and my k/d increases. it feels more balanced now after the patch. i experienced the one hit kill issue several times.
the game still is a mess but at the same time it can be so much fun.
i can’t wait for the moment we will finally see a game with this size and scale that looks good, runs good and plays good. bf always was a huge promise but imo it never truly delivered. maybe next next gen…

@polygem I feel the same. The game has calmed down a bit people are taking positions and there seems to be less run and gun success. Find cover, scan the horizon, move to cover, scan the horizon and never ever take your left eye off the map.

yep it was extremely chaotic before. i thought the reason for it was because of the 64 players (never played bf on pc) but that wasn’t the case.
much better now and really really fun despite the nasty bugs. back to full glory, tactictal bf action. loving it.
i ruined my k/d because of this though :)

If only people would revive more – I’m 10 hours in, can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been revived.
