PS4 is fastest-selling console in UK history, beating PSP record

Monday, 2nd December 2013 09:06 GMT By Dave Cook

PlayStation 4 launched last Friday here in the UK, and it has gone on to become the fastest-selling console in the nation’s history.

Score-keepers Chart-Track has announced that PS4 rolled right over the PSP’s record of 185,000 sales at launch. The record was set back in 2005.

November 29 was branded a “huge day” for gamers by Sony’s European boss Jim Ryan.

We also spoke with UK boss Fergal Gara just hours before PS4 launched. During the interview he laid out Sony’s stall, stressing that he felt confident that PS4 was going to beat the PSP record. He’ll be quite happy with today’s news then.

The influx of European PS4 players rushing on to PSN even caused some service disruption over the weekend.

We’ll update you once the official PS4 sales figures are released by Sony.

Thats PS4 leading in both US and UK, erstwhile 360 territory, just as I predicted ;)

    - Eurogamers’ Wesley Yin-Poole:
“It looks like PS4 has outsold Wii U lifetime to date in the UK”

    - Also from EG article: “PS4 exclusive Knack debuts at 13 ahead of Super Mario 3D World on Wii U at 14. Yes, Knack sold more than Mario.”

I know Knack was bundled and Wii U is dead in UK but that’s still a truly abysmal debut for a 3D Mario game. If that doesn’t force Nintendo to finally change its strategy, I don’t know what will. Seriously, Iwata and his team are almost going to kill Mario (In commercial sense of course, the quality is still top notch and the only good thing from Iwata’s regime).

^ Only that Iwata does not make games. His job is to sell them, and he is doing a pathetic job on that front.

Fantastic job by Sony. Well Done. From Feb 21 til now only shows what there truly capable of when their not fuckin’ around.

I think what this comment section is missing though is someone who knows nothing of the subject belittling this really cool achievement.

Come on Xboners, we know your out there, somewhere…

will be interested to see hard numbers. beating the psp’s record isn’t of an achievement considering how the audience for games has blown up since 2005. it’s kinda a given.

also, weird that mario doesn’t seem to be doing well anywhere. even in japan the sales were lacklustre.

I don’t think this means Xbox One is doing badly. If anything, it is PS4 that’s overperforming.

Only one in trouble right now is Nintendo when a new 3D Mario debuts at 14th.

    The PS4 is doomed!

The ps4 is overperforming? Because people want it and it’s amazing? They have pulled Microsofts pants down and buried the dualshock deep inside, Xbox two is their only hope… That is if they don’t sell the brand by then
