Battlefield 4 PC servers hampered by DDOS attack this weekend

Battlefield 4 players hoping for some multiplayer matches on PC this weekend found themselves frustrated by server issues – the result of nefarious activity.

Prior to its replacement with a PS4 news post, the Battlelog main page contained a message confirming ongoing issues with PC servers.

“We are currently experiencing attacks on our infrastructure that is impacting online gameplay on BF4 PC. We are working on mitigating actions,” DICE wrote, as reported by Kotaku.

In a post on the Battlefield forums, DICE’s Ali Hassoon confirmed the nature of the attacks.

“We are being targeted by a DDOS, but working on fixing it ASAP. I’m sorry somebody is ruining your and my day. Rest assured we are doing our best to mitigate the situation though,” he said.

Battlefield 4 is available now on PC, PlayStation 3, PS4 and Xbox 360; the Xbox One version is on the way when the console launches.

I support this attack. Origin/Battlelog is a shit service.

Writing on forum does nothing. PC gamers used another method. I approve it.

Supporting this attack is absolutely stupid.

The thought had crossed my mind. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve heard a developer refer to being under-equipped to deal with an unexpectedly popular game as a DDOS. They’re never prepared, and ‘DDOS’ is a get-out-of-jail-free card. Same with piracy. Scapegoats everywhere.

Of course, it might actually have been a DDOS, but I’ve seen the term bandied around falsely enough before to have my doubts.

@5: You can’t really have normal server usage seem like DDoS in Battlefield. The game uses a lot of private and some company game servers as well as a few metaservers used to record player score. These metaservers are only normally contacted by game servers. If they come under a DDoS attack the ranked game servers cannot function. Since there were no such problems at launch it has to be a legitimate DDoS attack.

Anyone happy with people not being able to play a game, whatever the reason, is a silly sod.

The DDOS attack did make connecting to servers a PITA, and once you’re on a server there’s still the 50% change the game outright crashes. I’ve even had friends BSOD on the game…

You guys are supporting a DDOS just because you don’t like origin?

Im no fan of origin but supporting that kind of behaviour just because you don’t like a piece of optional software is ridiculous.

EA, the worst company in America… because house robbing banks and fraudulent insurance companies don’t matter at all.

Good to see people have their priorities on straight.

@8: When the rank servers are not working the game servers are not accepting connections, worsened by the fact Battlefield 4 has some serious connectivity issues.
