Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes TGS 2013 gameplay demo available with narration

The Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes video which was shown during TGS 2013, is available once again as a narrated demo showing various mission details and gameplay.

Speaking in a group interview this week attended by Kotaku, series creator Hideo Kojima, since the game has gone open-world, the team included fewer cutscenes in the game so as not to take away the “freedom the players would have.”

Kojima compared cutscenes in games to a “standard Hollywood movie” where you have “15-20 minutes then the title, and then the main story starts.” Instead, the infiltration missions will tell the story.

“So all of the events leading to [Phantom Pain] will be happening through the game. You can think of Ground Zeroes as this,” he said. “Ground Zeroes, as far as gameplay goes, will have the player get used to all these different elements, these different actions that we will have within this open world.

“So people can get used to it… as far as Ground Zeroes goes, there’s one big mission that leads into the events of the main game, so you can see it somewhat as the tanker mission. This main mission in Ground Zeroes is what ties strongly to the main part of Phantom Pain.

“Within that big mission of Ground Zeroes you have several side elements, collecting specific items, doing something within a certain amount of time… In the side-ops you will find several elements scattered, and when you put them together, it will put together a story within the player’s mind of what is the next part of the game.”

Kojima says Phantom Pain is “200 times” the size of the map in the mission shown in the video.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is coming to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in northern spring 2014. It is a prequel to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

It was revealed last night during Spike’s All Access PS4 launch event that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will contain PlayStation 4 exclusive content containing a mission in which you play as Solid Snake, from MGS, MGS 2 and MGS 4, as opposed to Big Boss, the Snake seen in Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.

this is bad. One mission for $30? They have got to be kidding us but then again we will buy it

@ps4fanboy: Define, what’s bad about “one mission”. The whole MGS1 was one mission (Shadow Moses Island). We jsut don’t know, how long exactly Ground Zeroes story mission is. It will also feature an open world with side missions, etc. The story will take place one year after Peacewalker and you will see what happens to MSF after that.

Fewer cutscenes!!! So, only 183 minutes of cutscenes this time round.

Looks outstanding. Damn it. Didn’t want to get too hyped for this game, but this gameplay footage changes everything.

@4: I know your comment was supposed to be sarcastic, but 183 minutes is WAY too short for Metal Gear Solid. Even Metal Gear Solid one had longer cutscenes.

I think MGS4 had over 10 hours of cutscenes.

    Just out of interest…

Can anyone on this forum crouch and walk for more than about 10m without feeling a bit fucked. Now… I’m not super fit but I’ve been playing SC Black List recently and watching this footage; it seems spy’s can ‘squat’ for Infinite time…

I’m not saying I want it to be too realistic, but watching Snake / Sam Fisher waddle around for 1000′s of meters without getting a hammy cramp is kind of stooooooopid.

I know right ^ and whats with games like GTA V giving us infinite fuel? I say the next iteration of free roam games force us to fuel up because it sounds like such a fun mechanic!

And it would be waaaaay more fun to have to sit and watch fisher and snake pant and rest after crouch walking for a bit.
