UK game charts: Call of Duty Ghosts enters at first, Battlefield in at two

Monday, 11 November 2013 08:47 GMT By Dave Cook

Call of Duty: Ghosts has entered the UK game charts at first, fending off competition from Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. Get the full chart here.

It follows out own appraisal of Ghosts. I felt that the multiplayer was a step back from Black Ops 2, and that the single-player campaign dropped subtle pace-changing techniques found in CoD 4 in favour of blowing everything up.

Here’s the top ten in full:

  1. Call of Duty: Ghosts
  2. Battlefield 4
  3. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag
  4. FIFA 14
  5. GTA 5
  6. Batman: Arkham Origins
  7. WWE 2K14
  8. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
  9. Football Manager 2014
  10. Skylanders Swap Force

You know that the ps4 is going to be released very soon and since there us no upgrade code like with bf4 people will be a lot of ps4 edition…

Don’t know why people are happy to see another console “”die”"..Anyway with all the 1P games that will be released on the wiiU : Mario Kart Super Smash, X and animal crossing your mouth will be shut in 2014 I hope ^^

It’s a sad day when sales of one of the most poorly optimised and criticised COD titles ever heralds the death of a console.

If this is truely how gamers think now, it’s a sad fucking state of affairs.

It’s a poor game, end of story.

Looks like I touched some Wii U fanboy/salesman nerves. Oh my!

You should really update your own knowledge before telling others to shut up for telling the truth.
“Don’t know why people are happy to see another console “”die”
Did I say anywhere I was happy about it? Or did your mentality just made you assume that? Its a cold hard fact that Wii U is selling pathetically, only fanboys are offended by that.

“The PS4 version performs spectacularly well for a game that consumers will not be able to actually play for another 3 weeks, managing to outsell the PS3 versions of ‘Assassin’s Creed IV’ and ‘Battlefield 4’”

@dragon: your “OMG prove!!!” thing is really getting annoying. learn a few new songs at least. or maybe try not to be so onedimensional with your doom and burn in hell witchhunt predictions.
most of the stuff you post proves shit anyway. i hope you know that.

that said, i might pick up ghosts for ps4 (and mario for wiiu by the way-but maybe later this year-early next year. ps4 launch burns a hole into my wallet).

there´s an amazon 2+1 deal for ps4 games and i might go for it. not sure yet. the launch line up for both consoles just isn´t that hot. i can only choose from bf4, nfs, asscreed, cod, fifa and then either knack or killzone. knack looks good but i don´t know how long it will be and i can see that one being priced 29.99 in no time. might go for cod, nfs, killzone. not that i think nfs or cod will blow me away but they are probably fun to play. well, you know what you will get at least. cod mp is always kind of fun and i always loved the bigger maps while the majority of players mostly voted for the smaller ones…who knows, maybe it´s a cod i can truly enjoy again:)
my fave cod´s are 4 and blops 1.
i also need to get some training for destiny. last shooter i really played with a passion was reach and then halo 4 and blops 2 but those only casually. been a while.

It just shows if you release a sub-par game, on a system not known for Online FPS’s, without wanting to provide people with DLC, it’s not going to sell well.

    I would get this on PC / PS4 / Xbone / 360 over a Wii U copy and I own a Wii U console.

But again, we enter the ‘something only justifies it’s existance if xxx game sells on it’…

It’s a short sighted view riddled with agenda and fanboy hatred. If we only ever viewed success based on sales, we’d have to scrap every console that didn’t sell as much as PS2 / Wii / DS.

If Call of Duty: Ghosts sells more copies on the Xbox One versus the Playstation 4, or vice versa, shall we prepare their funeral as well?

Franchises like Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Super Mario, Zelda and Mario Kart have always been the pillars of support for Nintendo’s consoles. Call of Duty is not exactly best suited for a console that does not focus on online gaming.

Don’t forget the Wii U outsold the PS3 and Vita combined in Japan last week. Not bad for a console on “life support”.

    #9 1 year ago
  10. Joe Musashi

Wii U got a 1500% unit increase in Japan recently – driven by new bundling and pricing. But that doesn’t matter because we don’t judge success based on sales. Exept for the times we do.

Also, repetitive people that insist that others deal with their opinion and lump it generally shouldn’t accuse other people of repeating their opinion and expecting it to change. Cue semantics and hypocrisy to justify double standards and intolerance.

As for game sales: gaming is now mainstream. Deal with it.

  11. Dragon

If PS4 released one year before than X1 and COD sells more on X1, yes.

And, btw +1 for a rational response, not a salesman/fanboy one that the obvious salesmen here do.

And also, just check Wii U sales outside US and Japan, its dead. Ninty has shipped just 10k units the entire 6 months of first 2 quarters this FY to the rest of the world.
Its just waiting to die outside US and Japan. I would be happy to be pointed wrong, but its just the truth.
And in Japan? You should probably look at sales numbers of the entire year. This week was a temporary bump. Wii U is in the dumps there too. Zelda, MH, DQ, W101, Pikmin all failed to improve Wii U sales considerably over competition.

Why do you care what I or anyone else says about Wii U? Tells a lot about about you if you do. How about, live and let live? And yeah, try to prove others wrong not with hyperbolic hubris, but with objective statements. I know truth hurts you guys, but its, well, truth.
Damn, salesmen accusing others, how ironic.

MW3′s drop in sales (compared to BLOPS) were blamed on the Wii at the time (Wii players not being invested in the brand etc…)

The Wii was a great selling machine (one of the best). Simply put, this title doesn’t stand to prove anything other than Nintendo fans care little for COD (or bad games in general).

Certain titles just don’t do well on Nintendo platforms, but we’ve been here before many times and Nintendo and it’s consoles are still around.

It’s almost like people WANT to see the Wii U fail for some personnal satisfaction? Hmmmm….

I think if a game like Super Mario 3D World or Mario Kart were to suffer from poor sales, then there would be more reason to sound the alarm.

I wouldn’t say Nintendo fans care little about Call of Duty. Instead, I would state that people usually do not buy a Nintendo console with the intention of playing Call of Duty on it.

Good to see Battlefield on #2. At least more people will see how a true next gen game compares to the arguably worst CoD in years. As a PC gamer I’m not even touching CoDs with a 10 foot pole. Just look at this TotalBiscuit review (fast forwarded to the fun stuff, but you should see it all).

  16. The_Red

Sadly it doesn’t matter how mediocre COD Ghosts is or how much it sold on PS4, PS3 or other systems. The fact that it sold LESS than 1 percent means Activision will NOT release a Wii U version of next game.

Sure, it might sound good not to get another crappy annualized game from them but soon, more mkbj_fbatforms will reach 1 percent sales and that means more multiplats leaving Wii U. It doesn’t matter how many great Nintendo IPs are coming or how awesome Bayonetta 2 and X look (They look UBER awesome), the system will die.

Hopefully Nintendo can learn from their mistakes and either try something new (Original Wii) or something powerful AND great (SNES).

There is not a single version of a CoD game on the Wii that outsold the PS3/Xbox360 version, so according to your ‘logic’ the Wii has never been alive, despite selling 100+ million consoles.

Oh i dunno the moment someone (Dragon) says something negative or in this case the obvious truth put in front of their monitors/something they can’t handle about Nintendo in this case COD Ghosts Wii U poor figures. We eventually have the “i forbid it crew” @3,4,7,8,9,12,13 and 22 all forbidding the notion. If its not forbidding which it clearly is then its sensitivity. Both if need be.

If this were any other platform/manufacturer besides Nintendo i bet you there would be no response/little response (including any from the crew above), which highlights a statement echoed by someone.

  25. Dragon

Truth hurts. Simple as that. Its rather funny how the same people are always ready to give a pathetic apology on behalf of dear Ninty when anyone points out any remotely negative about it. As you said, replace it with any other company, and the defence brigade doesn’t give a damn. And its not like they dont like to point out “deficiencies” of MS and Sony, but since its not Ninty, badmouthing them is fair game.
    But Ninty? Nope.

You do realise that Wii U has an install base, while PS4 has none? Even after that, PS4 version is outselling the one year old console version by 3:1. (3% sales are of PS4 version, less than 1% for Wii U)
Sorry, but that is pretty bad. No wonder 3rd parties are abandoning Wii U with such wanton haste.

I think you underestimate the difference between delivering news without bias.

VG247 runs news stories. You don’t see Dave / Steph making assumptions on the future of a platform unless it’s solid and they get info from that source.

It’s quite clear the Wii U isn’t selling great, but it’s also quite clear it’s a long way off ‘dying’. Are we going to have to go through a whole year more (and the rest), with people saying the same rubbish?

COD Ghosts didn’t sell great on Wii U. The more interesting question, why are people surprised based on past trends?

It’s all baiting nonsense and you know it.

COD Ghosts: hardly surprising roll on 2014 new Call Of Duty title ;(
Battlefield 4: same roll on 2014 fps title, Titanfall? Battlefront?
AC Black Flag: I expected better.

GTA 5: This is a title which own out of the heavy hitters of the crowded holiday season. Granted Multiplayer is for the most part only fun when your in jobs which is problematic because you need people to join you and they won’t. Heists, Owning businesses etc. etc. basically an online version of single player. Make it more fun and vabriant open world. Alive. Yeah thats all. Robbing stores with my money is next to pointless though still fun.

Sales wise they all performed as expected even though they dropped from their predecessors, i won’t talk about Wii U because its what? Its just the list i expected.

You always act as though there is no prior knowledge or history.

As for Nintendo’s poor third party support, people said that about the Wii (amongst other things). I’m in no way saying Wii U will be as successful as Wii, but we are still not at a stage we can say wether or not Nintendo even care about this for better or worse.

  42. game_on

None of the CoD games have sold relatively well on any Nintendo platform, so these numbers are to be expected on the Wii U. I own a Wii U, but would not remotely consider buying this game on this platform. Online gaming is not a Nintendo thing (yet), so I bought my copy for the Xbox 360. The fact that some people buy a game they cannot play until after a couple of weeks is surprisingly, but that says nothing about the Wii U being dead or not.

@legendaryboss: you think it´s funny to make jokes about pooheads username? i mean yours is legendaryboss and you know, dragon is dragon…i always thought you guys might have to compensate for something but i don´t really want to find out tbh.

what´s also quite telling is how you guys HAVE to label EVERYTHING: nintendo defense force, forbid it crew, tag team, salesmen and so on. speaks volumes about your mindset really. classic fanboy – can´t think out of the box bullshit. label it then stick with it. bravo!

@dragon: most of the time all you do is purely baiting:

“If you needed any more proof that Wii U is just waiting to die, this is it”

you just called that telling the “truth”? i call it pure trolling actually and nothing else. you can do that, no problem but you really are surprised if people throw shit back at you when you behave like this?

if so, i can only imagine how problematic your every day real world interactions are.

i mean you can post stuff like the above as much as you want but please don´t be a cry baby when someone spits back at you.

    Double Standards -
A double standard is the application of different sets of principles for similar situations, or by two different people in the same situation. A double standard may take the form of an instance in which certain concepts are perceived as acceptable to be applied by one group of people, but are considered unacceptable—taboo—when applied by another group.

+1 again. And thanks for that link. I wonder were all the “flamebait” comments go when we dish out the same treatment to Vita.

Why on earth are you saying the Vita’s dead? That’s just means you’ve made 2 stupid statements rather than 1.

Vita isn’t setting the world on fire but it’s hardly dead either. Saying its dead doesn’t automatically validate declaring other platforms are also in the same state. It’s purely melodrama and Generally used to get a ‘rise’ out of people.

It goes against all realities of quality titles a platform has to offer and, as I’ve said time and time again, only matters if a consoles sales mean it dies before it has a number of quality releases.

Both Wii U & Vita have passed that phase and have a good few more years of solid titles.

As for the history stuff, again you are being a massive drama queen. You have obvious knowledge of previous posts (you’ve provided a link quite happily and have linked previous articles I mentioned and acknowledged them). You’ve tried to be clever and only offer 2 outcomes, either:

The need to ‘acknowledge history’ or be an ‘internet stalker’… Nice try but there’s a lot of middle ground you have sidestepped there. Ironically, Dragon is the closest to being an internet stalker if you really want to throw that term on the table.

@46: problem is you don´t want to discuss.

    this is a discussion:

(if you take out your passionate bait comments that is)

what you are doing is camouflaged semi-professional trolling.

EDIT: sorry this is just too good. another one where you are oooonly telling the truth right?

“Simply put, Ninty cannot do proper online, easy as that.
There hierarchy is smokin’ some serious shit I tell ya. So I really am not surprised now by anything they say.

Well, not until they correct their lunatic prediction of selling 8.5 million Wii Us between Oct-March, essentially outselling PS4 and X1.

    LOL. “

“you never contribute to threads” Amazing how @33 went over your head.

    Or this:

    Speaking of Francis
If i were to argue with him at every-point this place would become hell.

“its got to a point where whenever he contributes to something that you just insult him” Oh yeah he would never do that to me right?

“you ever pissed him off to a point where he made numerous accounts of you” That was someone else.

Do you think its funny to be called “gif virgin” or be wrongly observed by him and many others in almost every thread.

The reasoning for labelling is apparent

Salesmen? I thought i used this mostly in good tone with you
NDF = I stopped using this.
“forbid it crew” Poly if you can go through this comment section from 2 to 18 and not see how that is forbidding the notion. If its not forbidding which it clearly is then its sensitivity. Both if need be. If you can click on the link at 44 and still not see it as forbidding then fine.
Tagteam = I’m not sure if JM or Dragon came up with it? Its not used by me.

Well Poly Me and Dragon have both deemed PS Vita dead multiple times, we both stated problems with it at times. No problems/minor issues. The same is done for a Nintendo platform? Cue shitstorm… I’m sorry but there is something wrong with that.

“i mean you can post stuff like the above as much as you want but please don´t be a cry baby when someone spits back at you.”
That first needs me spitting at a person. Now, tell me where I even remotely offended anyone here first.

“i call it pure trolling actually and nothing else. you can do that, no problem but you really are surprised if people throw shit back at you when you behave like this?

if so, i can only imagine how problematic your every day real world interactions will be.”

And now judgement on me , courtesy the salesman. How ironic. Fortunately, unlike you, I don’t spend my day thinking what Francis said about gaming sites, and neither do I have such loitering friends who would send me such fanboy crap video text on my phone.

I wanted to say something more, but that would be a waste of my time. Adiós.

Interesting after being pointed out after stating it many times it is only now a rebuttal by one is being offered and not of the place of origin like here. “used to get a ‘rise’ out of people.” Only applicable to Nintendo.

“As for the history stuff, again you are being a massive drama queen.” Well when phrased and started like “You always act as though there is no prior knowledge or history.” I’m obliged to comment on the vagueness of it.

“you’ve provided a link quite happily and have linked previous articles I mentioned and acknowledged them”
Your comparing a week ago fresh in my memory article to a article which i was searching for at that point in time which wasn’t used for Dragon but used to debate the forum article you made.

“The need to ‘acknowledge history’ or be an ‘internet stalker’… Nice try but there’s a lot of middle ground you have sidestepped there.”
Middle-ground i sidestepped? If your going to debate Dragon’s history with someone who never brought it up and has no intention of debating it further your going to have to do most of the legwork for me to get interested.

Edit: If your going to start a history lesson come prepared don’t start blaming the students if the vagueness and comments made start getting them edgy.

I never thought that with any game although since cod is a multiplayer based game (emphasis on mp) I reckon ppl want lots of ppl to play against? If it doesnt sell well on WiiU but the ps4 already preceeds WiiU dayumnzz thats ouchy.

I have to admit WiiU players arent interested in cod anyway but it seems to me that WiiU fans are becoming niche. Multiplatform games are not well rewarded on WiiU and perhaps wont be supported. A lot of games wont turn up on the WiiU.

Wii was magic, now Tablets are magic and hate to break it to ya WiiU is redundant. Casual has moved on and the loyalists have stayed. Will it be enough?

Hey at least 3ds is supreme right?

@49: ffs! i stated problems with nintendo too. 3 years ago i was mainly done with them. i haven´t even bought a damn wii before 2012 because i was very disappointed with the motion gaming thingy.

everytime someone says something positive about nintendo you guys instantly hold a knife to that guys throat. it´s just so lame. i think the wiiu is good fun, yeah and i absolutely enjoy the 3ds so i say that here. that´s about it. it might change again as it has before, as it has with the 360 which i always praised here, then came the ads and i started to criticize it more. this stuff is constantly changing because i am NOT a platform loyalist. i am a videogames whore. i go to where the fun is.

i mainly played on the 360 last gen but had a ps3 too. i love halo, ratchet AND mario. i preordered x1 and ps4 and i think i´ll stick with ps4 for now. wont keep both. i own a bloody vita and i praised the shit out of it multiple times. i criticised it as well, sure. i can´t criticize much about nintendo atm. wiiu needs more games and the nintendo network id´s need to get unified. that´s all. everything else, i love about them (ATM!) – what can i do?

i have zero problems with people criticising nintendo but i have problems with terms like…well, take the examples of dragon i posted above.

but yeah, we´ve been here before. multiple times. such a waste of breath.

Does a console truly ever die? If it still powers on and plays games, is it not alive? Also, emulators have done a good job in resurrecting several consoles.

Whether a console ceases to produce sales figures is a different issue. However, just because a console enters retirement, doesn’t mean it’s dead.

I personally still think the Vita and Wii U have a solid chance of being more financially successful.

A little reality check, for those of you who think Microsoft and Sony are unstoppable, don’t forget that at one time Nintendo and Sega were the clashing empires in gaming. Times change and at any moment we can see another change of power. *Cue spotlight on Valve*

Also, I think Nintendo deserves respect for still being in the gaming hardware market since the 1980′s. That’s around 30 years. How many gaming companies can say that? *Fist bump to Howard, Miyamoto, Iwata and Reggie*

    #60 1 year ago
  61. Djoenz

True its my own criteria, but businesswise not doing well for Nintendo as third parties wont develop games so eagerly or are restricted by things like hardware. Its a shame really. WiiU is not doing well at all.
Even an online buddy of mine said the the WiiShop was severely lacking magic.

Magic is *POOF*. . . well anyways mainstream globally that is. The ppl that does enjoy their WiiU’s I salute you.

I question some gamers when they seem to relish in another company potentially going under. The only people who wouldn’t feel a loss in that circumstance are the people who would have never wanted to play games on said system anyway (fanboys).

I enjoy games, plain and simple. You can name me any system and as horrible as you might think it is, I can probably name something positive about it.

Also in my comment above, I should have given credit to PC gaming as well. It’s been around for a long time and has managed to stay alive. Games like League of Legends and services like Steam have really helped keep this special species of gaming alive.
