Batman: Arkham Origins – watch VG247 play the first 10 minutes

Friday, 25th October 2013 18:10 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Batman: Arkham Origins is out today, so VG247′s Dave Cook figured it would be a good time to don the cowl, fire up his PS3, and play through the first 10 minutes of the game. Video inside.

Review scores went live for the bat this morning. Have a look through the list here.

Batman: Arkham Origins is available for PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360 alongside Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate on Vita and 3DS in North America.

The game also released in Europe today for PS3 and Xbox 360, but the Wii U and PC disc option will not release until November 8. Blackgate will also released on Vita in Europe but will not release on 3DS until November 8.

Impressions so far(around 3 hours in):
    - It looks gorgeous(especially the snow)
    - Epic soundtrack
    - Batman is more badass than ever
    - VERY satisfying opening(as you can see)
    - A couple of glitches(2 to be exact)that prevent many people from progressing the main/side story and they need to fix this ASAP
    - Progression system could be better(upgrades are chained instead of pick which ever you want when you level up)
    - Crime in progress situations respawn basically as soon you turn your back on them which is good for farming XP but really breaks the immersion in my opinion

The PC version completely destroys the console version!

The graphics are simply awesome, the trails in the snow using tessellation, and on batman’s cape are awesome. The performance is top notch as well, I am running it maxed out, 4xMSAA, 1080p, PhysX off as I’m on an AMD card and its a buttery smooth 60fps all the time. Arkham City on PC was a mess at launch and still is not fully optimized on PC. This game however just goes to show what they can do when they use the PC as their primary platform to develop for. I hope this carries on into the next gen consoles as well, making for the PC first then porting down to the weaker consoles. It should be easy if they use AMD’s new Mantle API on PC as its being made with ease of use to port to consoles which use AMD’s hardware. This way everyone wins, and everyone gets the best possible image quality and performance! :)

Only 480p video? daaaaamn son. ;)

Dave, did you have the brightness set correctly? Cause I played it at my bro’s house and the locations in the game were much much darker. Maybe actually too dark.

No surprise really. But completely destroys?,,…..not exaggerating? I expect the resolution to be better and thus more crisp looking. The snow and cape effects are no doubt better..what else?

Yep just been to my friends house and watched him play this on a 47″ 3D Plasma TV and it still looked better on my PC Monitor running maxed out 1080p and now I’m using 8XMSAA as well and still getting 60+fps all the time. Thanks to AMD’s new 13.11 Beta 6 drivers (you can find them here if you are using an AMD card or APU

If a top of the range TV can’t help to improve the games IQ on consoles then nothing can. It just looks VERY flat on consoles, on the PS3 (which was his version) it looked washed out, colours were not vibrant and trust me my friend is a TV nut he knows how to set up a TV properly. The framerate was all over the place, it stuttered consistently when loading and saving.

You can’t complain really though, the consoles are seriously old now. To even run this game at a playable frame rate no matter what the IQ settings is still an achievement and the game is still ultimately the same game and still a tons of fun.
